Max Verstappen will be handed a second grid penalty for the Canadian Grand Prix in addition to the one he received in Monaco.
The Toro Rosso driver has had his fifth engine fitted ahead of this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix, moving him beyond the limit of four imposed by the rules. He will therefore receive a ten-place grid penalty.
Verstappen had already been handed a five-place grid penalty following his collision with Romain Grosjean in Monaco, which will be applied first.
If his ten-place penalty cannot be applied in full, under new rules for this season he will receive a penalty for the race. If between one and five places of his penalty are unused he will be given a five-second time penalty. That will rise to ten seconds if between six and ten places of his penalty cannot be served this weekend.

All at once is probably not a bad decision.
Especially since TR doesn’t seem a likely points candidate in Montreal!

Seems unfair that they convert a 1 place penalty and 5 place penalty to the same 5 seconds.

So the young pop star is behind Carlos Sainz Jr. one more time!

I don’t understand why technical problems from an engine supplier should result in penalties. What about a flat tire? Why isn’t that punishable?
