  1. 9/10 good stuff

    1. Vote 9 too.
Should be 10 if Rosberg doesn’t make stupid move that make tight championship disappear.

      1. @ruliemaulana

        that make tight championship disappear.

Vettel is 42 points behind now, one point less than a win and a 2nd place, exactly like Kimi was 2 races before the end of the 2007 season. So the championship is not over yet.

        1. @crammond let hope more clumsy race and sloppy start from Mercedes then…

Especially with no more pit wall help from Spa onwards

        2. But Ferrari was much more competitive that year. Today Ferrari won fair and square on merit but if the Mercs had been in the front as usual I guess we would have had the usual service of them (or at least Hamilton that today had the raw pace) to disappear in the distance.

    2. Never thought it would happen, but I finally rated a race a 10!

      1. +1 I was there… and after the race finished i raced 500 km home to see it again.

    3. Good race. I wanted Lewis to win but it was very entertaining.

Plus, Horner will calm down for now and Ferrari will be more confident after the summer break.

Mercedes has to work on their starts…

Actually a 9,5 from me, for the first race ever, but I was kind so I gave it a 10. An absolutely astonishing race. Nobody could have predicted the result, on an otherwise dry and warm race / track.

Thanks SuperSeb for dedicating the race to Jules, <3. And massively dissapointed for Kimi, he also did a very nice job and was so brave at and right after the start (the overtake on Rosb).

    5. Me too. There was a bit of a boring bit in the first half which lost that final point from me, but that was beautiful!

and yes 9/10. Finally a race where it was not just the strengths of the various cars that determined the outcome.

    2. For some reason, it felt ‘right’ a Ferrari won the weekend after Jules’ death.

  3. hungry once again

  4. 10. No one could have predicted that.

  5. Easily a TEN out of ten. Outstanding.

    1. Never given a 10 before. An emotional roller coaster all the way down the grid. Felt physically exhausted by the end.

      1. Although I gave it a 9, I feel what you mean

  6. 10/10. Final few laps had everything.

  7. Instead of 10th double podium Merc gets no podium at all. In a dry race :o 9/10

  8. Amazing, Hungary delivers again!! 10/10 So many great performances although not from the two Merc boys!

    1. Indeed. Hungary deserves classic GP status. 9/10 for me!

      1. @fer-no65 it really surprises me that we keep getting such good races at this circuit, where overtaking is supposed to be so difficult. It’s really refreshing that despite that the drivers seem to really go for it at this track. The race was outstanding. I gave it 9/10. The only reason I didn’t give 10/10 was because Vettel didn’t have to defend any serious moves for the lead. Otherwise all I can say is this race summed up why I love F1

        1. Hungary is the only track where DRS is somehow dialled in to perfection.

  9. Boring. Ferrari always win…..

    1. (Gave it a 10 by the way :) )

      :))) | 10/10, Ferrari win for Bianchi
Is it a race with most penalty given?
when did the last time Red Bull get double podium? when was the last time no Mercedes on podium? when did the last time McLaren get double points? how many penalty points did Maldonado get now? a lot of question to be answered in statistic feature..

      1. Aditya (@adityafakhri)
        26th July 2015, 15:07

and is it the first time all position occupied by ex-Red Bull academy driver?

          26th July 2015, 15:08

          *podium position…

        2. All top 4 in fact. And yes, it is

          1. Bianchi made that happen didn’t he? Ferrari win, and Dan on the podium…

          2. @mashiat Technically, VES isn’t a Former RBR Academy driver.

But yeah, Helmut Marko must be over the Moon. I mean Pluto’s, not ours.

          3. @davidnotcoulthard why wouldn’t he be a former RB Junior Team driver? He drove for half a season with RB colors in F3 just like all the other Junior Team drivers.

          4. @mattds I thought current STR drivers were still part of the academy.

            Are they?

          5. @davidnotcoulthard no, they aren’t. Currently it’s only Gasly, Stoneman and Ilott. Verstappen is a graduate.

            http://www.redbulljuniorteam.com/drivers

          6. @mattds Thanks! (I thought graduate s were ones who made it out of STR)

      2. rb’s last dp :p was in singapore 14

    3. First ever 2nd place for a Russian too.

    4. +1 Also: Boring. Vettel always win….. =P

8- HURRAY for DRS, perfect for this race.

    1. 8/10 seems fair to me too as it was an entertaining race.

There was a bit of a lull in the middle and the final podium battle turned out to be anti-climactic but the start and finish overall were enjoyable and it was fun to see Lewis claw his way through the field.

DRS was well-balanced here as drivers still had to be brave to pass at Turns 1/2 but unfortunately that was the only real overtaking spot on the circuit; was hoping that Turn 12 would be another place to line up passes.

The key thing that both this race and Silverstone had (other than unpredictability) was that the Mercedes were not leading out of Turn 1. That alone makes any lead battle interesting.

  13. Absolutely crazy, but fantastic race. A lot of drivers got lucky, but that’s the game. 10/10.

  14. Just what we needed, fantastic race, really enjoyed it. #ciaojules

  15. Oh F1, we love you! A race that that Jules would have been truly proud of.

  16. Very good…. lots of action… the only thing that could have made it better would have been if the action had more been ‘racing’ rather than ‘incidents’

    1. Unfortunately in current era it’s impossible to have “more racing” so we must rely on other things and we got maximum show today I think :) 9/10. Jules would have been proud.

      1. Er, incidents caused by people racing. That’s what happens..

  17. 10. No explanation needed

  18. Ric locks up causes an accident – NO ACTION WARRANTED.
Lewis locks up causes and accident – DRIVE THROUGH PENALTY.

    Why am I not suprised?….

    1. They were not the same incident, I think you know that

      1. Ryan (@ryanisjones)
        26th July 2015, 15:24

Once your car locks up, you effectively have no control of it drifting wide. I think it’s harsh for a penalty to be given for that – Lewis could not have avoided it. On the other hand if Ricardo gets off the throttle a little after getting the car under control, then he does not puncture Rosberg. If anything, Ricardo had way more opportunity to avoid contact than Hamilton.

Overall, I think Lewis getting a penalty is harsh, but I think Ricardo not getting a penalty is a little ridiculous.

        1. @ryanjones

Ricciardo was on the edge of the track completely and Rosberg chose not to give him space. I didn’t see Hamilton lock up, just drive too hard into the corner, as I did not see any smoke. I could be mistaken.

I think the Kvyat penalty was silly since he passed Hamilton and they were both off course at the time.

          1. Ryan (@ryanisjones)
            26th July 2015, 16:32

            @neiana
Rosberg does not need to give him space unless a significant proportion of his car is along side. Riccardo only had a wing alongside. Rosberg was in front and entitled to the racing line. It is completely up to the following car to get out of the way (remember when Rosberg did the same thing to Hamilton leaving his wing in).

Also, Hamilton is on cold tyres after a restart. He does not take anywhere near the same speed into the corner as Ricardo so saying he drives too hard into the corner is a bit of a double standard. The only reason he goes wide is because of a lock up (he did, there was smoke), and the resulting contact breaks his wing, thus he gains nothing from it. Penalty. Ricardo goes faster, on warm tyres, takes out his opponent when he has the car back under control. No peanalty

          2. @ryanisjones Ricciardo also did it in Monaco with Raikkonen. He was nowhere near ahead enough to demand more space there.

    2. Really!?
Ham ran into the side of Ric.
Ric made no contact and stayed at the track limit.

    3. Ricciardo and Rosberg was a racing incident CLEARLY (more Rosberg’s fault as he oved on the racing line where Ricciardo was). Hamilton locked up and went into Ricciardo which was his fault.

      1. *moved

    4. If anything that was Rosberg’s penalty if it had been issued.

    5. *cancel this reply*

    6. @supremacy Ricciardo locking up did not cause the contact between him and Rosberg, which is why that incident doesn’t bear comparison with the other one in this way.

      1. @keithcollantine RIC was on the racing line but he locked up passing ROS. ROS should have been more careful though, but an incident that bears comparison is last year during the Belgian GP. This year ROS gets the blame but last year how come he was still blamed?

        1. @mim5
In Belgium it was in the middle of a chicane, so technically he stuck his front wing inside Hamilton, whereas here it was on the exit of a corner so Ricciardo had a right to his line. It was a bit clumsy from Rosberg, honestly I think he should have gotten a 10s penalty or something since it did cost Ricciardo a place, even if he lost out much more.

          1. @george It seems a carbon copy to me. chicane/corner/turn same difference. RIC isn’t blameless either. He made the same move Ham speared him with. In any case, ROS seemed to give enough space.

      2. @keithcollantine
Ric would not have been on Rosberg’s racing line had it not been for the lock-up.

My point basically is that the Stewards over-eagerness to punish Lewis (in comparison to other drivers) really achieves nothing, and is in BAD TASTE.

        1. @supremacy

Ric would not have been on Rosberg’s racing line had it not been for the lock-up.

I don’t see why that matters, unless you want the stewards penalising drivers for locking their wheels. Ricciardo was making a legitimate overtaking move, the mere fact he locked his wheels doesn’t somehow make it illegitimate nor does it require him to drive off the track or lift the throttle to make way for Rosberg.

    7. So Ricciardo was supposed to run off the track then to avoid Rosberg? Yes, the move into the corner was a bit clumsy, but once they made it through the apex, Ricciardo was halfway off the track already and Rosberg ran straight into him. If anything, Rosberg should have gotten the penalty for avoidable contact, although I agree with the stewards’ decision since he destroyed his own race in the process.

      1. I see Ric making a lot more contact with other drivers in the near-future because he has been praised for his dangerous lunges into the corner.

It’s almost like he closes his eyes and hopes for the best.

        1. +100000 Definetely agree with you there!

  19. 9/10 – Entertaining race and kept us on our toes throughout

    1. Also brilliant to see a russian in second, as they are a nation with the infrastructure to deliver great drivers!

  20. Probably the most entertaining race of the season for me.
Real shame for Kimi, bad luck hanging around him is surely putting him under more pressure too.
Wanted the title chase to close up so its a shame what happened with Ros and Ric but as a race on its own right, really good.

  21. Paul (@frankjaeger)
    26th July 2015, 15:00

Very strong 8. Some absolutely killer overtakes, controversies and accidents were undeniably exciting.

  22. 9
An actually fight for the win is what will make me give a race a 10. However, given the way the rest of the season, this was by far the most exciting race of the season.

    1. There was a 3way battle for lead 20 laps left.

      1. Sean (@spaceman1861)
        27th July 2015, 0:37

You have a valid point @dynamite but perhaps he wanted more changes of the lead

  23. Vettel lead a race from the beginning, despite the SC, both RB’s were on the podium, Raikkonen retired with an engine problem, Hamilton collided after doing an excessive move, Alonso finished in the highest place he could do. It was a typical F1 race. Except it wasn’t.

    It was mega

  24. After everyone keeps complaining about boring races and lack of competition, this is the second race in a row where it hasn’t been the case. I firmly believe that Formula One is in a far better state of health than many would have us think. It’s not perfect, but nothing ever is. 10/10. This race was the perfect tribute to Jules as well, before the race was so poignant.

    1. I firmly believe that Formula One is in a far better state of health than many would have us think.

@mathers Agree, I’ve said it a few times through the year.

    2. I agree with that @mathers, @gt-racer. The cars, the races, the rules, the engine, even the current tyres (as they do NOT force 2-3 stoppers all too often) are all fine as they are.

The biggest issue is going to places like Baku, Sochi, Abu Dhabi and tracks like Nurburgring, Hockenheim, Monza, Spa etc being in fear of losing their race while over half of the teams are in trouble with finding enough funds to keep racing etc.

      1. @bascb @gtracer

You’re spot on there. The racing itself is not the issue, it’s the way in which the sport is owned and run which has caused the problems.

  25. Close racing and unpredictable from start to finish, 2015 worst season ever amirite guys

    1. @ciaran Although I agree with Silverstone and Hungary we now at least have had two good races this still doesn’t even rank the season anywhere close to the likes of 2006-2013…

  26. 7. Better racing than Silverstone and even more drama. In the end a little anti-climatic as well. Ricciardo couldn’t reap the rewards of a well thought out typical RedBull strategy. As I’m not a fan of drama 7. Lewis Hamilton must have a 5 leaf clover under his sleeve.

  27. 10/10. Best race so far this year.

Feel a bit sad for Kimi, but also happy that Rosberg didn’t make it onto the podium. His performance wasn’t even in the top 8 id say this weekend. Many great drives by other drivers; Alonso, Hulkenberg, Kvyat, Ricciardo etc

  28. Keisoglou Alexandros (@)
    26th July 2015, 15:04

10/10. No explanation needed. Just go and watch the race. A real roller-coaster.
Even better than Silverstone, if that’s possible.
    A great tribute to #JB17.

    THIS is Formula One.
9 More races like this one, please.

  29. Great race. Super classy drive by Seb, and… Nando!! One of those for Lewis :/

    Ferrari’s pace wow.

NOT a good way for Red Bull to ask for Merc engines…

  30. 8/10, first half is not the best to watch, but after the safety car i dont think i ever found a more action packed race than this one since i watch f1 from 2006, such a shame the end is anti-climax between Vettel, Rosberg and Ricciardo.
But, its still the best safety car restart i ever watch also the start of the race is sublime.

  31. Action and drama all around the place through the whole race. Just as it should be. Just hope this isn’t a deceitful exception.

    10/10.

  32. 10/10 what a race! The mid-race safety car set up all the drama in the last 20 laps, Lewis’s dreadful restart, Riccardo’s charge then lost it, another great drive from Vettel, and great results for those who have had a rather poor season so far like McLaren and Kyvat! Finally extra Kudos to the drivers who dedicate their results to Jules, this is truly a race that he would have been proud of.

  33. 9/10 there. Great action all around the track.
As a Force India and Nico Hulkenberg fan I cannot help but think that if his front wing had not fallen off, then he might have been on the podium.

  34. Exceptional. But I wish more of the excitement was due to racing rather than incidents Still a great race.

    1. F1 has never really had exceptional racing as a rule, always as an exception – at least for the last 30+ years!

  35. Adam (@rocketpanda)
    26th July 2015, 15:09

Easily the best race so far. So much was exciting!

Ferrari fighting for victory, challenge by Red Bull, McHonda scoring points… Kvyat first podium, Hulkenberg’s wing, Hamilton making mistakes, Raikkonen’s car giving up… there was so many things happening and things were changing so much the race was electrifying compared to most of the ones this season.

Vettel and Ricciardo really showing how good they are. Although seriously baffled by Rosberg… where was he? Looks like he’s already given up this championship.

    Great race though, 9/10

  36. 10/10 for sure. This race was a STUNNER!!! It had everything. Great show and the perfect way to say Goodbye to Jules!

  37. Gave everything that I want in a race, 10/10!

  38. 10/10. This race had everything.

Call Hungary boring again after this…

  39. Race of the year!

  40. 10/10 – exciting from start to finish, had everything; overtakes, reliability, crashes, Malbanana… superb.

  41. Great, great race!
I’m a Hamilton fan, but Vettel is the best driver in F1.

  42. In a dry race, a McLaren Honda beat both Mercedes with no help from retirements…

    12/10

  43. It would have been 10/10 even though I don’t like current regs but why was the start aborted? It’s not the first time someone was a long way off his grid spot and even there were situations when they let them go with drivers in wrong positions (Bahrain). It seems they don’t know what to do with start procedures Lol. Anyway fantastic show. How glad I am that I was 100% wrong in predicting Mercedes borefest :)

    1. Not being straight in the box is not a problem as long as the sensor around the yellow line is covered by the car appropiately which wasn’t the case with Massa today.

      1. It’s interesting to hear that as Senna was a long way his slot in Monza 2012 and there was no drama. Maybe Massa’s front wheels were outside of the white lines. That would make sense!

  44. Very great race. Many incidents, a lot of surprises. I give it 10/10

  45. We should not forget in all the enthuasims for what was an exciting final 20 laps, if it had not been for the SC and the fact that we have the two compounds-rule the race would have remained as dull, with things pretty much decided by the end of lap 1. So yeah, an exciting race needs a bit of an artificial spice up.

Also, the fact that the SC doesn’t wait for the pack to close up had quite a bit of an impact here.

Other than that, a classic Hungarian Hamilton-mess up, I’d say.

    1. Still, hamilton mess up is what made the race not boring

    2. I would hardly call the race “artificial.” A car crashed out at turn one, and they needed to clear the debris. It’s not like safety cars have been introduced as a gimmick over the last few years – they’ve been around officially for over twenty years, and are quite widely accepted as a key element of racing and of Formula 1.

And I don’t see how not waiting for the backmarkers to catch up had an impact? The slow cars not being able to be at the back prevented the cars in the front to have a good race?

      1. And I don’t see how not waiting for the backmarkers to catch up had an impact? The slow cars not being able to be at the back prevented the cars in the front to have a good race?

Because the SC period will be unnecessary long for waiting for them to catch up again. We talking like 3-4 laps longer here.

      2. I’m not at all questioning the SC or it’s purpose, I’m not even complaining. Maybe I didn’t use the word “artificial” appropriately here. But much like Bahrain 2014 which also got massively great ratings the Safety Car was duly needed to bring excitement. We just shouldn’t forget that up to that point both those races didn’t have much to offer – I would hope though F1 didn’t need those unforeseen things like drivers crashing to get exciting.

For the pack: it didn’t have an impact on the front-runners. What I meant is I am wondering whether the McLarens for instance would even have been in a much better position with all the drama in front if the SC would have allowed them to close up prior to the restart.

    3. Also, the fact that the SC doesn’t wait for the pack to close up had quite a bit of an impact here.

      That should be the standard.

  46. Very enjoyable to see three different cars fighting for the win in the last stages of the race!

    1. @banana88x And to see how the podium turned out after that.

  47. Straight away 10/10 and the best race of the season so far just a shame about Rosberg getting the puncture or the championship would be so much tighter. Still lots of action and great from Vettel and Red Bull just a shame for Kimi.

    1. @jojobudgie He did not deserve P2 in my opinion.

  48. It was exciting. That’s for sure. but mostly down to mistake, failure, accident, not skillful driving and wheel to wheel. I can’t give more than 7/10.

    1. @eggry If you want drivers to give their all and go beyond the limit of the car mistakes happen.

      1. @xtwl Professional drivers should race close to the limit but not beyond. even my grandmother can do that.

        1. @eggry No she can’t. Not when not using the simulator anyway.

        2. @eggry I guess you never made any mistake at your job then? Or are you still in school scoring 100% on everything you do?

    2. Hear hear! Don’t understand how anyone can give this a 10/10, let alone the majority :S Very confusing.

I think maybe the boredom of the year has really dulled people’s senses so here we have a plainly entertaining race, and people are thinking its a classic…

      1. I’ve been watching f1 for 25 years. Pretty much know the difference between a classic and a revival of excitement. This was a classic. Every season has dull races

    3. There’s just no pleasing some people — if you don’t like it dust-off your chewed-up old Villenueve/Pironi VHS and get dewy eyed about what an “amazing” era that was. Yeah…

  49. Gave it a 10 thanks to Maldonado! :)

  50. P5! I can’t believe how excited I am. But I am. Alonso got P5!

  51. Ricciardo went bottoms up on that champagne.

    1. I noticed that. For Jules no doubt!

  52. Wow 10/10. Maldonado what a joke man 4 or 5 penalties in a race. Lewis was a joke too, so joke that i thought he was trying to troll f1 at the restart. Bianchi made this ferarri win possible. #JB17

  53. 10/10 What a great race!! A fitting tribute to Jules Bianchi #CiaoJules

  54. Too many drama, too many action, I’m so hyped to talk about it right now.

    10/10 . An easy 10!

  55. Hamilton should be sending a early Christmas present to Riccardio. Not only did he shove him off the track but Riccardio saved his lead.

Hamilton should count his lucky stars….

    10. The race was so unbelievable. Unbelievable start from Ferrari, unbelievable final laps and a very unbelievable finish. When Vettel took his 41st victory, this was my reaction. And on the finish, I played Tema da Vítoria because Vettel’s the next Senna. Oh my god, I can’t describe how unbelievable that was. Maybe I can describe it as more unbelievable than the 2014 Hungarian GP.

  57. I was going to give a 10/10, but the thanks Bernie for 30 years thing decreased it to 9.5, which when rounded is still 10.

So 10. This is the first race I’ve ever given a 10 to. 10.

It goes to show, though, that people expect too many races like this. It’s like trying to get in to Rush expecting a repertoire of 19 Moving Pictures (or into Yes expecting tracks on Relayer to sound like Owner of a Lonely Heart).

You get your Tom Sawyer (today?), but Xanadu or The Necromancer are also great, if lengthy and not catchy.

  58. On a side note, we should all start watching GP2 or F3.

  59. Gave it a 10…something for everyone in that race….all those seasons I was wanting someone to beat Red Bull…and there I was today cheering RB on…and congrats to McLaren Honda…bring on the 2nd half of the season

  60. It remains as predicted: There is a direct correlation in 2015 races between McLaren finishing positions and the entertainment factor of the race, even if the McLaren don´t really add anything significant to the entertainment themselves.

    8/10

    1. As predicted? So you might only give a 9 or a 10 if Will Stevens or Roberto Merhi wins? Wow! You rather watch Fast & Furious every alternate Sundays!

      1. @neelv27 It remains as predicted (only) in that the higher McLarens finish, the more exciting the race was.

        And what’s wrong with him giving it an 8/10 (I mean, I scored a 10/10, but…)

      2. @neelv27

“As predicted” is followed by a colon, after that colon there is further specification of what I predicted (and yes, that prediction is somewhere in the comments of an article far earlier in the season).

Furthermore: This was a great race. I haven´t seen any Fast&Furious movie yet, so I can´t say anything about that. I´m just not as lavish with high ratings as others on this site, there´s maybe half a dozen races from the last 3 decades I´d vote 9, and I´ll never vote anything 10/10 as to not exclude the possibility of something better happening in the future. Also I think these ratings serve to compare different F1-races to each other, not to anything that´s happening outside F1. So even if a race is rated 3/10, it will still find space on my hard-drive and will still be re-watched eventually.

  61. 10 for me. Tyre scuffing, wing smashing action. Although rosberg did nothing exciting I can’t help but feel sorry for him that his race ended like that despite Hamiltons mistakes even if I wanted Hamilton to do well.

  62. How many penalties did Maldonado receive in this race (and what were they for?) I couldnt keep track!

    1. @f1bobby It was just laughable wasn’t it. Half the FIA notes included Maldonado.

    2. 3?
      I believe they were,
      Causing a collision.
      Speeding on pit lane.
      Passing under the Safety Car.

He only has 4 points on his Super License right now. I can’t see him not getting any more. and the next point doesn’t come off until November 2nd

  63. It was… eventful, but exciting. 9/10.

  64. 7/10 for me.

Yes its unpredictable and has lot of drama, but for me its the clumsiest race I ever saw. Because this is a sport and not entertainment, I can’t give high score just because “the drama and the goliath finally beaten”. There’s quite a few penalties given before SC and after the restart, the screen just filled with investigations and penalties for multiple drivers.

Great job for Vettel, Alonso, and Button for pretty much the only drivers not doing mistake in the race and bring home great results for their teams. Vettel is defintely DOTW for me.

Kinda sorry for Rosberg, but he could leave a bit more space to the left and Ricciardo could pay more attention too, but I agree penalty is not necessary. Really sorry for Raikkonen and Hulkenberg.

Special mention to Maldonado for keeping his reputation. He got 4 penalties in one race iirc (causing a collision, speeding on safety car, overtaking on safety car, speeding in the pitlane). Just wow.

  65. Wow! What a race – 10/10 for me easily. I’ve always liked the track here but this is the best race I’ve seen here for sure, probably even better than the wet 2011 GP (I don’t remember 2006). Just the shot in the arm the season needed, especially as Vettel is now less than a race win behind Rosberg and back in the championship hunt.

It seems like ages ago already but the start of the race turned my expectations on their head, and unlike the Williams at Silverstone Ferrari were able to take control of the race. There was quite a bit of overtaking for significant positions, and a lot of racing. It was very unpredictable – I was shocked how Ricciardo was able to race Rosberg with a damaged car, by the lack of pace from Felipe Massa (he really held up Hamilton early in the race) and that the McLaren somehow ended up not only fifth, but ahead of both Mercedes on track!

I feel sorry for Hulkenberg (was running well and could have scored big points, he might have got his first podium had it not been his front wing failure) and Raikkonen, who should have completed a Ferrari one-two and badly needed a good result today but had his race ruined by no fault of his own.

Hamilton was certainly pretty fortunate today although I can understand his desperation to retain his position after the restart and in ‘normal’ conditions he was faster than Rosberg, who was comparatively slow in the middle stint.

  66. Any critics about F1? That’s what it is all about…simply amazing. 11 out of ten, easily…

  67. Disappointed Kimi & Lewis fans gonna hold the average back, unfortunately.

    That’s a 10/10

    1. Neil (@neilosjames)
      26th July 2015, 15:42

I think Hamilton fans will be delighted with how it turned out in the end!

  68. Neil (@neilosjames)
    26th July 2015, 15:45

Can’t give less than a 10 for that – excitement from the first lap to the last, bags of uncertainty, some very nice overtaking moves (DRS seemed as good here as it has been anywhere), three very competitive constructors and in the end, the right man won.

  69. 9/10. Crazy, crazy race. Can’t believe what happened.
Overall very exciting, some poor moves, but finally we see some mistakes and drivers pushing to the limit.
It was also very emotional at the end with Vettel’s team radio.

  70. 10/10 you cannot ask for more

All of the drivers I’d like to do well, had bad races thru no fault of their own(apart from Nasr, he just didn’t have any pace), but this isn’t about that. Fantastic race

  71. 10/10 because it was dry

  72. 10 out of 10,

Love how even if they didn’t win, it was a Red Bull academy win!!!
    Yey for Mclaren too!!

  73. 8 out of 10 for me. Crazy? Definitely yes, but lot of the factors originated by silly driver errors and one unlucky incident with Hulkenburg.

By the way, made a comment in this site after months, although have been following it regularly and religiously :)

    1. The site welcomes your well balanced opinion. 8/10 is what i give it as well because i found it entertaining. Anything higher is simply unwarranted due to poor standard of driving on display and disappointing failures for the Hulk and Kimi. It made for a crazy race but i personally found it a little unsatisfying. Even at the end when we had Vet/Ros/Ric fighting it out no one really got close enough and on the one occasion they did it ended in contact due to poor driving.

Last years race? Now, that was a classic. This was not even close to the quality of that race.

      1. I agree. By the way, I used to be frequent commenter during 2007-2009 days ;)

        1. That explains the balanced point of few. I’ve often found people on here a little bipolar – It’s either the best or the worst race ever.

  74. To ape som commentators of previous races…

0/10. No fight for the lead (Vettel led from the first corner), safety car ruined race. All overtakes were easy. F1 is dying.

A really entertaining race. Not the winner I wanted, but entertaining none the less.

    1. bah, stupid typo

  75. 8/10 for me. i have to admit it was exciting, but not because the issues of F1 have suddenly disappeared. definetley a more welcome result than the standard Hamilton-Rosberg-Vettel podium (or at least for me as a neutral viewer), but it’s not the consequence of a more balanced and rational system which could make the majority of the races interesting. this way it was more like a gamble, and this year F1 failed for the first 8 try, but got something back during the last 2. and i am kind of thankful for the first 8 dull races, that makes me appriciate the last 2 even if this comment might suggest that i’m not really over the moon about it.

    1. @andrewt In all fairness Vettel’s lead, if untaken apart from the pitstops, weren’t exactly unchallenged either.

  76. Simon (@weeniebeenie)
    26th July 2015, 16:06

Meh, It was good but i think 10 is a little OTT. Until the safety car it was essentially the same as a Mercedes walkway and i don’t see how that is any more exciting. Rosberg couldn’t challenge, Seb was always in control. There was some good racing elsewhere but nothing spectacular.

Then we got the safety car bunching everyone up and it gave us some racing incidents but as other have said it was all a little sloppy. Exciting nonetheless, but with the processional first part I couldn’t enjoy the race as a whole that much. 7.5 probably rounded to 8.

    1. My initial excitement of Ferrari taking the lead was followed by boredom. Vettel was unchallenged, Kimi was in no mans land and Rosberg continued to be unimpressive. Even with the safety car bunching them up we only got one move from Ricciardo and it ended in contact due to Rosberg’s poor driving. Hamilton extending his championship lead rubbed salt in the wound but i can’t deny that it was a slightly chaotic race that probably deserved an 8.

  77. A surefire 9, it really is one of the most measured ocntender for my eventual 10.

  78. Kimi. If it wasn’t for bad luck, he’d have no luck at all.

    1. @timothykatz That’s what Brundle said about Webber…

      1. Yes, unfortunately it seems that some otherwise excellent drivers can’t catch a break – Jean Alesi, for example.
I was trying to think where I heard the phrase first and I traced it back to a song recorded by Albert King in the mid-sixties “Born under a bad sign” which was actually written by Booker T Jones and William Bell. That was an unashamedly anorak moment!

        1. Sorry. Missed your tag @xtwl

  79. This was a very thrilling race and the best one of the season by far IMHO.

It´s just a shame that they just can´t seem to resist to switch camera to show the reactions in the pit´s during close fights instead of showing those reactions as a replay afterwards instead.

It was, if not worse, prolly just as bad as in the late 90´s when they constantly showed Mika´s wife in the pit box every effin` time that he was in a close fight to be honest.

Still a great race though. :)

  80. 10 – Such a rare score but this Fantastic raw and real racing with different teams in the mix and fighting for position is why I wake up at 4 am and plan the race weekends around to see, with much disapproval from my wife. I am a great Hamilton fan but I hope Mercedes have more bad starts.

  81. Only osur tase in the mount (from a neutral POV) is that Hamilton still increased his championship lead over Rosberg.

On, well, one can’t get everything in his favour, right?

I’m prepared anyway – despite this race – that Hamilton will just destroy the opposition in the second half of the season.

But I’m glad the best part of the season went out with quite a bang.

  82. Great race, 8/10! With another winner, this would’ve instantly gone to my rewatch list.

  83. That was crazy

who won, I don’t even care

    9/10

  84. 9/10 what a race. Feel sorry for Hulkenberg and Raikkonen, they did a great job, on the other hand Maldonado just showed his skills of getting stewards attention once again. Verstappen would be pleased with his result.

  85. Hungaroring is “Dull” synonym they said.
It’s going to be a Mercedes picnic they said.

    10/10

  86. Gave it an 8. Good race. Happy that my prediction of a boring Merc 1-2 was slashed before the first corner of the first lap.

It was a little slow until the safety car. Things really spiced up after the safety car arrived. So much unforced errors and poor driving from Lewis and Nico.

The hulk incident was scary . the Front wings just caved in. reminds me of the old Red Bull days.

    #forJules

  87. Never thought I would rate a race 10. But I just have. Surely a classic for the ages. And what a great way to remember Bianchi too.

  88. It was shaping up quite nicely before the safety car but Hulk’s smash (see what I did there?) just added to it all. We saw a collapse by both Merc drivers today and one of Vettel’s finest drives. Some standout performers today and a lot of tension, drama and some good, hard racing. I think after what has happened recently, F1 really needed this.

    1. @craig-o No. What did you do?

  89. Best race in the season so far. 9/10…this is the best score i can give it as long the DRS exists. After races like this, u cant wait for next one to watch…but still, the problem is that there are max. 5 races per season like that (optimistic)

    1. it has always been like this.

  90. 9/10. Best race of the hybrid engine era.

  91. James (@jamesjames123abc)
    26th July 2015, 16:52

I’m giving this race a 9/10. It’s easily the best race of the season so far, and it’s one of those races that’ll be looked back upon in years to come. Hungary might just produce the best race of the season for two years in a row (Hungary 2014 was better than Canada 2014, in my opinion).

Whilst I really enjoyed it, the standard of driving today wasn’t that great, but given the recent events, it’s understandable. It’s certainly been a tough week for the F1 community. Also, it’s hard to criticise them for having a go at racing on a track where overtaking tends to be difficult.

    It’s going to be a long four-week break, that’s for sure…

  92. This was a 10/10. Hamilton fan but if you’ve been watching F1 long enough, even the greatest drivers have a rookie day sometimes. Haven’t seen him have one this bad since 2011 but it was bound to come back around again eventually.

  93. 9, Epic action but the race winner led from the first corner.

  94. Brilliant. Only a rain shower or two missing.
I thought that the way Maldanado was collecting penalties that Stevens would unlap himself without the need to overtake.

  95. One of the best ever races in the DRS era. That DRS generated a good deal of the excitement keeps it being a 10, and the sheer amount of collisions instead of clean overtakes keeps it from being a 9 in my book. 8/10.

  96. 10/10

Honestly, an F1 race can’t get much better than this. Best race of the season.. probably best of the last few seasons. It was totally unexpected for this track and a brilliant contest. I mean who would have thought Hungary would feature so many overtakes?!

So many great points of interest.. from that amazing start by the Scuderia, Red Bull finding the pace, Lewis clawing his way up the track (twice) and McLaren delivering their first genuinely solid performance of the year.

Unfortunate for Kimi, but at least he showed he had the pace when the car was working properly.

  97. Well that was… unexpected. Definitely the best GP this season.

Thoroughly enjoyable race, loads of unpredictability, and a clear shout out as to why oldschool circuits (even the “boring”, messy, bumpy, gravel-trappy and tight ones like Hungaroring) absolutely need to stay put in the F1 calendar.

However a 9/10 or a 10/10 seems a bit indulgent to me. There was a number of outside factors that contributed to this race being the cracker it was, like air and track temperature, for instance, which put many cars out there off their rails and directly into unknown territory with regard to setups and handling / driveability. Hulkenberg’s incident was also such a factor which contributed hugely to the high levels of entertainment.
Sure, DRS worked this time around but it’s still a bad concept for a motor race, while modern F1 cars still struggle in turbulent air, which still is and is going to be an issue.

I wouldn’t count on a repeat of this race soon, but for now 8/10 seems more than fair to me.

  98. 9/10 for me (RBR fan with Seb winning? Can it get much better?). Great stuff, lots of excitement, good driving, crashes, little bit of everything.

  99. Would have been a 10 BUT
No challenges for the lead = -1
    Too many collisions = -1
    So an 8 for me

    1. As much as I’m glad he didn’t make it, but Rosberg was challenging for the lead after the safety car. Just because there isn’t a change in positions doesn’t mean there isn’t a challenge.

  100. Gave it a 10. Kept me on the edge of my seat all throughout the race. Shame about Kimi’s car though. Could’ve been a Ferrari 1-2.

  101. Best race of the year? Hungary? Who would have thought? It’s usually one of the most boring races of the year…
Was a bit shocked by Tommy “Pinball” Hamilton’s uncharacteristic performance today having made virtually every conceivable mistake. I was expecting him to report an issue with the car after the race.

  102. An action-packed eventful race.
    Amazing!
There was kind of a plateau for a bunch of laps before The Hulk´s crash, otherwise it would have been a 10/10.
    9/10.

  103. When they started the BBC coverage and Suzi Perry was talking about this race “tearing up the script,” I thought, “Maybe behind Lewis and Nico, but no challenge for them today.” Man was I glad I was wrong. Gave it a 9/10. So much excitement. Great race. Just wish we didn’t have to rely on driver and team errors to give us exciting racing, and that the teams at the top were all equally competitive so we got a mix up like that each race.

  104. Last time out I condemned the British Grand Prix, and claimed it was only receiving such high praise because of the recent lack of interesting races. This however, was pure class.

Action at the start set the entire race up beautifully, and while not action everywhere, Ricciardo and Hamilton fighting back through the field provided a decent number of rather impressive overtaking moves between them. There was also action and overtakes between some of the other drivers, although we did miss a few of them, but this really happened right up to the Safety Car.

It was scary to see Hulkenberg fly off without a front wing – he was lucky not to collect Bottas – and disappointing for him and the team, but it set up the final 20 laps beautifully. As Martin Brundle said in commentary, for once it was the perfect call to allow backmarkers through – even if it did spark off a whirlwind of penalties – and allow the top five a shot at one another from the re-start. Then the final 20 laps don’t even need explaining. Mistakes, overtakes, great racing, drama, and a Championship situation that swung from one to the other every five laps or so.

Was there overtaking, action, drama, collisions etc every lap of the race? No, but realistically that will never happen. For excitement, drama and something different, this was – for possibly the first time this season – a proper race, and I hope Jules enjoyed it. That race was for him, and I cannot think of any better tribute with which to honour the memory of a truly incredible racer. As @fixy mentioned in another article, this felt like a great and proper way to say goodbye to him.

    1. Oh, and seeing as I forgot to say it. I gave it a 10/10. It was a perfect race to commemorate the memory of Jules, and a perfect result given recent events.

  105. What a fantastic race! I expressed some scepticism before the race, and now we have a classic! I’ll keep do that!
Kudos to to Vettel, Kvyat and Alonso!
I’m so glad for mcLaren, finally some real points!

  106. 9 for me. Very close to a 10, but Seb didn’t have anyone really going at him for the win. Rosberg got close enough to DRS him one time and then fell into RIC’s clutches and that became a great battle for 2nd, but I wanted to see that for the lead.

And despite what the stewards say…I blame that on Rosberg and he should have gotten a drive through for that.

  107. I wonder who the 1% of people voted the race 1/10?

    1. Those would be the Rosberg fans :)

  108. “interesting race” not a “great race”… all overtakes resulted in punctured tyres and shattered front wings.

  109. So F1 gives us a glimpse of what things might look like if the advantages of the best power units is more equal – and it was good!

  110. Classic. 9/10 for me – just wish those Williams boys had been in the fight a bit more :-\

  111. Easily the most exciting race of 2015 so far, I gave a 10 – yes there was unreliability and some clumsy driving, but despite the opportunities given to Mercedes today they threw them away and that gave us true unpredictability. The front row lock out was soon a distant memory, Hamilton’s run through the gravel and then the collision with Ricciardo made him look flustered, and Rosberg simply couldn’t match Ferrari today even before his puncture against Ricciardo’s wing.
Also note the following (and that Singapore 2014 was the last GP that Bianchi finished):
Vettel (winning for Ferrari, the team that Bianchi was meant to drive for in the future)
Kvyat scoring his first podium and Ricciardo staying in the top three against the odds, resulting in the first Red Bull double podium since Singapore 2014
Verstappen, the youngest and newest addition to the Red Bull driver programme (past / present members of it in the top 4, with this scheme being similar to the one Bianchi was in at Ferrari), with a career best of 4th – this was Toro Rosso’s best finish since Brazil 2008 when Vettel was 4th
Alonso scoring his first top 5 finish since Singapore 2014, when he was with Ferrari
Hamilton’s worst race result (other than DNF) since Brazil 2013, when he was 9th
Grosjean, a compatriot of Bianchi, back in the points
Rosberg’s worst race result since Abu Dhabi 2014, when he was 14th
Button in the points for the first time since Monaco (on both occasions Williams failed to score), with McLaren taking their first double points finish since Brazil 2014
Ericsson’s first point since China, where he also finished 10th, but this time he’s ahead of Nasr
Force India failed to score in Hungary for the second year running, also with a double DNF
Unless Vettel wins the title, this will be the 11th consecutive year where the world champion hasn’t won in Hungary

  112. I normally never do this, but I gave a ten today. For the simple reason this race had me sitting on the tip of my couch all way trough, from start to finish.

This will be a classic long remembered, a race Jules Bianchi would have been proud of.

  113. Sean (@spaceman1861)
    27th July 2015, 0:39

8/10 For me mainly because danny ric should have won (:P) but decided he would race as a human pinball instead( or maybe others decided for him). Good race :)

  114. 10. What an amazing race, from start to finish! I can’t even recall all what happened:
    > Touching 1minute of silence before the race,
    > Great start by Ferrari,
    > Hamilton in the gravel trap on the first lap,
    > Ricciardo’s jumping car after the contact with Bottas,
    > Perez/Maldonado clash,
    > Hamilton pass on Massa,
    > Hulkenberg frong wing failure,
    > The nice train through the pit,
    > Ricciardo/Hamilton clash,
    > Ricciardo/Rosberg clash,
    > Kimi untimely MGU-K failure,
    > The good result for McLaren,
    > Almost a podium for young Verstappen,
    > Well deserved podium for Kvyat,
    > Great words by Vettel, in french, for Jules. Very emotional win.

For me it seems that almost everybody was happy at the end of the race. Ferrari of course, RedBull for their double podium, Toro Rosso for the 4th place, McLaren for the double point finish… It has been a long time since we have seen so many teams cheering on the pit wall and it was badly needed :)

  115. Gave the race a 9 just as the race was over. After having slept over it, I feel it was the right rating.

Once again, we saw an amazing start from the people behind the leaders and Mercedes were relegated to 3/4 after the fourth corner. Perhaps rattled by the happenings, Hamilton tried to be ambitious and got it all wrong ending up 10th. I think the race for the lead ended there.

It was heartening to see Vettel and Kimi pull away from Rosberg especially after the way the past few races have gone for Ferrari. Both were calm and collective in their approach while the rest of the field turned amateurish with their mistakes.

This might probably be the race with most number of mistakes from the professional drivers. Hamilton, Rosberg, Ricciardo, Verstappen, Maldonado, Kvyat all making mistakes and getting penalised at one point of the race.

I was sure of a Ferrari victory until the SC and it was a shame that Kimi ran into trouble with a possibility of a Ferrari 1-2 on cards. It was a new experience seeing the SC parade the cars through the pitlane :)

Only once did Rosberg even come under a second off Vettel after the restart and post that Vettel was relatively trouble free till the end of the race while driving with the calm of a monk amidst all the carnage.

Rosberg missed a golden chance to somehow lead the WDC at half point in the season and Kvyat got a well deserved first podium along with his team-mate who wasn’t particularly impressive with his race craft compared to the year before. Although I must admit that his overtake of Hulk and Bottas made it possible for him to be there at the end with a chance of victory.

Hamilton perhaps exhausted all his good luck in this race considering he had a spin, a drive through and an extra pitstop but somehow managed to finish ahead of his nearest title challenger.

After a terrible week where one of the young and very talented driver lost his life, this race was a fitting tribute to the memory of the life of Jules. For I hope when we remember him, we will remember the amazing race that took place a week later along with the way the racers paid their respect to Jules before the race than the time that we mourned in sorrow at his passing.

Forza Ferrari. Sebastian Vettel proving detractor (including myself) wrong since the start of the year. Long may it continue.

  116. Do not understand why people are so excited about this race. All i saw was a lot of cars hitting each other, stupid DRS overtakes, lots of penalties and a way to long safety car period as they let the slow cars pass.
The only good part was the start, resulting in a 6

  117. 10/10 thrill from the start till the end

  118. Aqib (@aqibqadeer)
    27th July 2015, 7:10

9/10 first of all just a fantastic race really re-ignited my interest in F1 i thought that second year of mercedes dominance was too much perhaps they have been too far ahead for too long shame for ricciardo and red bull both mercedes drivers really need to start respecting other cars now really hindered riccardo’s race

  119. Planned a canoe trip with friends for a long time and couldn’t watch the race live, so I watched it in live conditions sunday evening just knowing Vettel had won the race as the radio spoiled the results on my way back in the car.

Saturday night I told my wife the Hungarian GP was the most boring race in the season and nothing happens there… What an idiot I am!

The race was great, entertaining, filled with action-pack racing, overtaking and drama, but I found it also a bit messy – with contact and mistake every 5 laps.

That let me think only the Ferrari drivers were clean in the race. Mercedes was just bad, Williams was non-existent, Red Bull was messy, Force India was fragile, and Lotus was… offending.

  120. I thought it was a great race, considering that the Hungaroring is not usually an “exciting” circuit. Vettel was brilliant and Alonso did very well to hang on the 5th place driving that dog of a car. Hamilton was all over the place and very lucky to get 6th and extend his lead.

  121. 9 for me.
This was a race you had to watch from the start from the finish. Great stuff!

  122. To be honest, after the shock of seeing two Ferraris ahead the race had nothing until the pit stops. Though the action was down mostly to mistakes, that’s racing and I don’t pla to devaluate the entertainment this race gave us. Mechanical troubles (unfortunately for Kimi), driving errors (both Mercedes), brave moves (Danny Ric), solid drives (Alonso), strategic disasters (Williams), a Safety Car (sorry Nico) all at once made for something unbelievable. Red Bull 2-3, Verstappen 4th, Alonso 5th, do we need to say more? An unusual result this year needs a very unusual race, and by this year’s standards that means we have a 9/10 right here.

  123. 9/10 – The ONLY reason I didn’t give this a 10 was the lack of a battle for the lead. Had there been multiple leaders and overtakes for the win I would’ve given it full a rating.

    1. 41% rated it a 10… This might have been an entertaining incident filled race but there was very little quality racing on display, with only a few drivers having a good race. Keith, i think we might need to re-evaluate the scale…

  124. I thought it was a very good race and probably the best of the season so I rated it a 8.5 (rounded up to a 9).

The safety car closing the field up again made for plenty of action during the final third of the race, before the safety car I thought the race was only on course for a rating of 7.

Hamilton dominated the weekend up until the race and if he had led into the first corner I think he would have dominated the race as well but yet again he made a poor start and then followed it up with some more mistakes trying to make his way back up the field.

Even though Hamilton had one of his worst race performances for a while he still managed to extend his lead in the Championship.

Rosberg was never on form all weekend but I thought that even after his bad start left him third he would still be pushing the Ferraris all the way so I was surprised when they managed to gap him.

Rosberg’s call later in the race to use the medium tyres for his third stint, as that was what Hamilton had to use, I thought was very strange and seemed to show that he was more concerned with trying to defend third rather than try and attack for the victory.

Once Vettel took the lead after the start he seemed comfortable and I never thought his victory was in doubt until the safety car as Ricciardo was the only lead driver who would be on softs after the restart.

It was a shame that Ricciardo had his coming together with Rosberg as we could have been treated to a great battle for the lead if by the time Ricciardo had caught Vettel, enough life had gone out of his quicker soft tyres so that it would have been an equal fight.

  125. Sebastian Vettel drove an absolutely outstanding race!
This is the Sebastian Vettel we are all use to seeing.
Hope Ferrari can really really take the fight to Mercedes after the summer break/ (I have also heard that Ferrari may upgrade their engine for the 3rd time in belgium)??
