  1. Great qualifying session! Fantastic performances from Wehrlein, Hulkenberg and Button.

A McLaren on the the 2nd row. Who would have thought it. What a brilliant slice of quali that was

@frankjaeger now get ready to listen to Ron stating they are ready to demote Mercedes as the new dominant team.

  3. absolutely loved Q3, better than Most races this year, hope the race will bei aß exciting tomorrow

  4. 6 different teams for the first 6 positions is nice to see. Great laps from the Hulk, Button, and Wehrlein.

  5. Mercedes probably did a bad move by starting on ultra softs… What happend to NR at the last lap? I was expecting it to be closer… I had no live timing during the final part… thanks f1.com..

  6. Shocking!! Thought RBR and Williams could be more competitive. Good job from Force India, Haas and Manor. Still cant believe that a McLaren is in the second row. Its all Hamilton’s race tomorrow. Again Mercedes wont be sweating on the strategy with the lead car unless there is some early incident.

    1. Lewis starts on ultra soft… while all rivals start on Super softs… even Nico could be in trouble… That might have been a noob move as Chris smoove says because those tyres last shorter…

      1. @krichelle There is hardly any evidence to support starting on the ss is the better strategy. If it stays dry tomorrow I’m fully expecting a Hamilton walk in the park…

        1. Of course there is ‘some’ evidence, there was hardly no lap time difference between the 2 compounds from what we saw so far, and the SS goes a lot further.

      2. To add to what @xtwl has said, isn’t the performance of the two tyres quite close? Mercs have shown that they can go long on ultrasoft.

        1. They had issues this morning. I would believe SS to be better than US. Monaco was an exception with its unique characteristics.

Not to mention the suspension breakers as well. Rosberg will be the one to watch IMHO.

        2. @pinakghosh Ferrari were able to conserve the US tyres a lot better than the Mercs this morning.

  7. Well, whoever came out last from the pits finished higher up. The track was being cleared by the first cars for the last ones to reap the benefits.

  8. What a cracker, though I still expect Ferrari and Mercedes in top four tomorrow. Hulk and Button WOW. Nico was the first was onto slicks and benefitted. Amid the chaos I almost forgot that Wehrlein is P12.

    1. The start will be deciding for the end of the race. I can easily see Rosberg or Vettel crashing, trying to gain places on the way to the first corner. Also, strategy is important. Red Bull and Ferrari are the only teams starting the race on the Super Soft tyre, which may allow for a one stop strategy, beating Mercedes in the pits.

      1. Do you really believe Red Bull can beat both Mercedes in normal circumstances? :)

Yes, everyone can crash, especially in the pack or suffer a technical problem. But on race pace Mercedes and Ferrari are clearly ahead of the rest. US’ degradation give hope the red cars can finally win this year. For Hulkenberg and Button it is all about losing as few positions as they can.

        1. No, I don’t believe Red Bull can do it, but I believe Ferrari can give Mercedes a run for its money. Given the right circumstances, of course.

  9. Missed Alonso in Q3… :/

  10. Rather worryingly, the Hulk is facing an investigation for ignoring yellows in Q2…

    1. Or was it Q1?

      1. Q1

  11. A long first stint on SS followed by two US seems to be the strategy for Ferrari. Only one set of softs they had and they used it yesterday I think.

  12. I love the opportunity to view the grid in 80’s mode!!

  13. I’ve read in motorsport that Rosberg will start 6th instead of 7th, what a joke FIA :
