Have they hit the ‘five seconds faster’ target?

How do their lap times compare to 2015?

Mercedes set the pole position time at the 2015 Spanish Grand Prix. The graph below shows how much of an improvement each team has made compared to their own performance in that race weekend.

For reference the lap times for 2015 pre-season testing have also been included.

How do their lap times compare to last year?

Lap times fell last year after Pirelli introduced softer compounds at some races. For this reason, plus the usual car development, teams will not have improved by as much compared to 12 months ago.

  1. Raikkonen became the first driver to achieve a lap time in the 1m18s.

    1. Yup! It’s obvious the front teams are messing around, they do not want to show their full speed. If he managed to do 1.18.6 on SuperSofts, I think he can do easily high 1.17 on UltraSofts. Thing is, so far, he managed only 1.19 on UltraSofts. Doing laps on UltraSofts 1second slower than on SuperSofts means just 1 thing: they do not push to the max.

Unfortunately Pirelli will only bring “the soft, the medium and the hard compounds for the Barcelona event” this year.

    2. He did it, but i am not sure he really pushing.

    3. Correct… Lets take a look at this table…

      Raikkonen Ferrari 18.634 10/03/17 s soft
      Barrichello Brawn GP 18.926 12/03/09
Vettel Ferrari 19.024 09/03/17 ultra soft
      Button Brawn GP 19.127 11/03/09
      Vettel Red Bull 19.295 19/11/08
      Bottas Mercedes 19.310 08/03/17 s soft
Hamilton Mercedes 19.352 09/03/17 ultra soft
Massa Williams 19.420 08/03/17 ultra soft
      Verstappen Red Bull 19.438 10/03/17 s soft
Bottas Mercedes 19.705 01/03/17 ultra soft

Top 10 times in Barcelona… Since BrawnGP in 2008, Vettel/Red Bull and Rosberg/Williams in 2009, no one under 1.20s. Fast cars this year!

      1. Barrichello did it in 2009, 1.18.926 (BrawnGP)

  2. Ferrari have a really good car . But i doubt about WDC, it will Lewis or RB .

    1. opps will be.

  3. When time will be hot about 1.17 waking me up.
