F1 raft race
The revival of the once-traditional Canadian Grand Prix Raft Race served to to illustrate of how different F1’s new regime is to its old one. All the teams were invited and F1 even had its own entry, captained by Ross Brawn.
Lewis Hamilton received an incomparable award for equalling Ayrton Senna’s career tally of 65 pole positions: one of his hero’s race-used helmets. The example he was presented with in Canada was a replica; he will receive the original later.

Hamilton led the field away while Valtteri Bottas, Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen went three-wide into turn one.

Carlos Sainz Jnr tangled with Romain Grosjean with destructive results – he wiped out the blameless Felipe Massa.

With the other Red Bull out of the race, Daniel Ricciardo claimed the final podium place behind the Mercedes.
