Ten of the best pictures which tell the story of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend.

Alexander Rossi, Friday

Alexander Rossi had his first run in a 2014-specification Formula One car during practice on Friday. He took over Kamui Kobayashi’s Caterham – the ‘Kamui support’ logo on the inside of the cockpit can clearly be seen.

Fernando Alonso, Friday

Fernando Alonso raised Ferrari hopes by setting the fastest time during first practice on Friday. But the team were no closer to the pace of the leading Mercedes in the race and found themselves struggling to beat their other rivals.

Nico Hulkenberg, Saturday

Marshals look on as Nico Hulkenberg passes by the infamous Wall of Champions.

Daniil Kvyat, Saturday

Daniil Kvyat’s first race weekend in Canada was one to forget: he was off his team mate’s pace in qualifying, spun in the race and then retired.

Max Chilton, Saturday

Moments before Max Chilton arrived at turn one Kevin Magnussen spun across the corner, leaving grass and dirt on the track which the Marussia driver then kicked up.

Start, Canadian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton made a great start and nosed ahead of his team mate. But if he thought Nico Rosberg would leave room for him on the outside he was mistaken.

Pastor Maldonado, Canadian Grand Prix

A power unit problem left Pastor Maldonado 17th on the grid. He moved up to eighth and had just been passed by Daniel Ricciardo when a similar problem ended his race.

Kamui Kobayashi, Jules Bianchi, Canadian Grand Prix

The marshals at turn four collected a Marussia (Jules Bianchi) and a Caterham (Kobayashi) during the course of the race.

Sergio Perez, Canadian Grand Prix

For 18 laps Sergio Perez held second place and gave Force India hope of a maiden grand prix victory. But he was passed by the stalking Red Bulls and then went out in a frightening last-lap collision with Felipe Massa.

Daniel Ricciardo, Canadian Grand Prix

Having dispensed with Perez in fine style, Ricciardo passed Rosberg’s hobbling Mercedes to clinch his first ever grand prix victory.

  1. Haha love the one of the two cars on the grass! Really made me laugh! :D

    1. Yeah. Great shot.

    2. Likewise.

    3. To me, it was kind of a metaphor for these two constructors’ time in F1.

    4. Chillin

  2. Funny, there was no photo of the big crash in a gallery supposed to “tell the story” of the 2014 Canadian GP

    1. That’s what I was thinking too :o

      1. @ssm0304 @strontium Would have used one if I had a suitably good one, but didn’t. I haven’t seen that many good pictures of it at all, actually. It’s often the way with last-lap incidents as many photographers are heading for the pit lane at that time to snap the winner and the podium.

        1. @keithcollantine Autosport’s gallery has a few good ones from XPB, I don’t know if you have access to their photos.

They also had a really wonderful photo of the moment Ricciardo going onto the grass just after he overtook Perez ( http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/13321716 ), it would be great if you could upload it here because the pictures on Autosport are too small for today’s average display resolution.
