Susie Wolff’s run in first practice was more successful than in Silverstone – but she did manage to pick up two fines for speeding.
Here are the Twitter highlights from a scorching hot day at the Hockenheimring.
#F1 Williams team suffered a fire in their hotel last night in Germany. 4 taken to hospital as a precaution. All ok now and back at track.

Lots of complaining today from the media troops about people sitting in the wrong seats. Should have used a towel to reserve their place.

First practice
Just like in Silverstone, things started off badly for Wolff. But the car issue was fixed quickly this time.
Wolff: "Repeat, should I stay in first gear? Try to make it back to the pits?"
Eddols: "Copy, try to make it back to the pits." #F1

Already track limits being tested, especially at Turn 1. Remember 2 years ago there being a horrid bump in the grass just past exit kerb.

The ban on Front Rear Inter-Connected suspension was a big talking point.
Losing FRIC suspension means they must run the front of the F1 cars higher/stiffer. We are seeing lots of cars running wide in slow corners

The drivers and car set up will soon compensate but we may see more errors in qualifying and particularly in the race with worn tyres

Sparsely populated grandstands here. Race day rumoured less than 60k; about a third of great Hockenheim atmos in Schuey days + before #F1

A more productive practice session for @Susie_Wolff but she did collect two pit lane speeding penalties totalling €2,000 in fines. #F1

Credit to teams for turning up in Germany & running no FRICS at such relative short notice. Not just a case of unbolting it for everyone!

Early indications show RBR may well gain a bit on Merc, as they already had other, aerodynamic, methods of controlling pitch & dive on car.

So the cynical view that RBR pitching the “this may not be legal anymore” was a way of gaining by virtue of “it’ll hurt them more than us” looks to be correct.
Sad that this sort of political manoevering is still more important in F1 than skill.
