Drivers are likely to be spared a repeat of last year’s tricky, rain-hit Monaco Grand Prix as the forecast is for dry weather this weekend.
Conditions will get progressively warmer throughout the four days of action at the track with race day temperatures potentially as high as 27C under cloudless skies.
As usual practice will begin on Thursday instead of Friday, but cloud cover and little wind will keep air temperatures below the mid-twenties.
After taking Friday off the drivers will find hotter conditions on Saturday for qualifying. The chance of rain over each day is currently rated very low.

I’m actually really looking forward to this one. I think the wider cars will provide little room for overtaking; coupled with some driver errors (Stroll, Palmer, Verstappen?!) bringing out the Safety Car we could see strategic chaos. I could see some of the back markers stopping very early on to take advantage if something were to happen as it’d be very tricky to overtake even with fresher tyres and a high speed differential.
I don’t get the grief that Monaco gets from fans these days. Sure there’s little overtaking but it’s an entirely different challenge to anything else – I’m excited!

I’m with you there, Ben. First, FP. It’s going to be very hard to put in the string of laps required to assess tyre performanes, race sims and even quali sims as the track is going to be full of drivers at different stages and almost never is clear. Then the timing of the Qualification runs with the very great likelihood of someone collecting the barriers during the final minutes of Q1 and Q2. After all that excitement and with an unusual-looking grid, there’s the race itself with its almost guaranteed several pace car periods and strategic gambles to look forward to. :-)

Exactly. People get too caught up about overtaking and don’t care about the skill it takes – Monaco is the most enthralling race for me because one tiny mistake, go 1cm wide, and you’re in the barriers. And it undoubtedly has the best qualifying session of the year too.

there is as always a great possibility for a steady drive to give an unexpected amount of points.
Apart from the 3 drivers that you mentioned @ben-n, there are quite a few more that are quite found of the barriers. Massa hugs them a lot in the last few years, Kvyat has had his share as well. Magnussen had some troubles last year as well during FP.
So regardless of the amount of on track action, it is always an interesting race

So glad it’s going to be dry. Can’t stand rainy races. Never have liked them.
