Carlos Sainz Jnr was unhappy with his Toro Rosso team’s slipstreaming tactics after qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix.

Sainz complained that he never got to benefit from team mate Daniil Kvyat’s tow during the qualifying session. Both drivers were eliminated in Q2.

“I was of course complaining because I was never getting a slipstream and behind me there was people getting my slipstream,” Sainz explained. “Interesting enough it was my team mate and it was every lap the same and it was every lap three tenths, four tenths on the data just on top speed.”

“I was not happy about it because we are not given good chances. When you are not being given good chances, you’re giving away four tenths on the straight, you don’t get to enjoy it much.”

“It was planned for me to go in front,” Sainz added. “But to go the four sessions in front, the four times you are out in front, for me it’s not fair.”

Sainz said he was “very disappointed” to miss out on the top ten shoot out. “After FP3 we finally got to show some performance,” he said. “We were definitely in a good position today for Q3.”

“But qualifying was just full of troubles. My two fastest laps I hit the yellow flags and I could improve. So P13 definitely not where we wanted to be. When you have yellow flags on your two fastest laps where you’re coming two to three tenths faster you cannot do nothing, you just have to back out of it.”

Kvyat was delayed when he was called into the weigh bridge during the session and his car jammed in first gear.

    1. The Qualifying commentators suggest Kvyat might need to change his gear box. If he does then he will incur a penalty which should put him behind Sainz.

What a crybaby! Some evil minds stole his slipstream! Just can’t believe it was a sentence from F1 racer.
Did the folks who occupied the front rows needed the tow or slipstream?

      1. Really disappointed in his comments. You got beat by Kvyat .. man up. If anyone was realistically going to gain 4 tenths on that straight through slipstreaming, the entire grid would be doing it.

        1. I’m sure I heard Ted say during qualifying that Sainz was giving a tow to Kvyat but when Kvyat was set to return the favour he wasn’t playing ball.

          1. Errr, no, Kvyat is supposed to tow next race. BTW Kvyat said that his speed at the straight at his best lap was identical to Sainz’s, easy to check right?

    3. is Sainz becoming Grosjean 2? He moans and blames it on someone / something else anytime it goes a bit wrong for him. There will always be less stellar weekends in a driver’s career, just deal with them like a man!
