Top Gear mocks ITV commentator
Top Gear has launched a new Formula 1 blog but will the BBC?óÔé¼Ôäós hit motoring show play any role in the corporation?óÔé¼Ôäós coverage of F1 which begins in 2009? Speculation about a Top Gear-F1 link up has mounted after The Times ran a front page story suggesting Richard Hammond would front the BBC?óÔé¼Ôäós coverage which … Continue reading How will BBC TV cover F1 in 2009?
I know a lot of British F1 fans get irritated by ITV commentator James Allen. I’ve never been a big fan either but I’ve tried not to get too drawn into the Allen-bashing because, much like when it comes to discussing the talents of F1 drivers, I’ve never done it so I don’t feel I … Continue reading Commentating: How hard can it be…
Another early start for the UK’s armchair fans unfortunately didn?óÔé¼Ôäót equate to another exciting race last Sunday. Ferrari dominated and McLaren floundered – with Lewis Hamilton struggling get close to Mark Webber?óÔé¼Ôäós Red Bull and Jarno Trulli?óÔé¼Ôäós Toyota, let alone actually make a move. Yes he may have been driving for points (in the second … Continue reading The Ben Evans column: ITV aren’t bad
Having made my usual new year’s resolutions (about drinking less coffee and spending less time on writing F1 Fanatic) I dreamt up a few resolutions I’d like F1 drivers and other figures to take. Here are 20 resolutions I thought up – suggest some of your own in the comments box below…

There are all kinds of F1 groups to join from those who want Ferrari to sign Danica Patrick, fans who want the original Nordschleife back on the calendar, to the Canadians who want their own F1 team. Some … Continue reading 25 best groups for F1 fans on Facebook
A new book on Michael Schumacher by ITV F1 commentator James Allen? Whether I was going to like or loathe it I knew I had to read it as soon as possible. Both Allen and Schumacher are pretty controversial among F1 fans – Allen’s commentaries for ITV-F1 are not well-liked, partly because of his perceived … Continue reading “Michael Schumacher: The edge of greatness” (James Allen, 2007)
Damon Hill will be joining ITV’s commentary team for next week’s Hungarian Grand Prix. The ITV team made the announcement following their coverage of today’s British Touring Car races. He is expected to be joining James Allen in the commentary box in place of Martin Brundle, who usually misses the Hungarian race.
Maybe its because of my bad run of results in Formula Vee, or maybe its because, Canada and Europe excepted, Formula One is rather boring this year, but I have spent the past couple of weeks feeling unusually indifferent towards motor racing. I think partly its because once I start feeling a bit down towards … Continue reading The Ben Evans Column: Rant
British F1 fans – will you be tuning in to BBC Radio 5 Live’s qualifying and race broadcasts with Murray Walker this weekend? Or will you be sticking with ITV’s James Allen for the European Grand Prix? I’m in a bind – I’ve always been a huge Murray Walker fan (and was thrilled to interview … Continue reading Murray Walker vs James Allen
Six years ago James Allen officially took over the ITV mike from Murray Walker. He had done a few live F1 broadcasts for ITV before then, and last weekend saw him rack up his 100th. So it was quite fitting that the Canadian Grand Prix should be won by Lewis Hamilton – Allen makes no … Continue reading James Allen’s 100th Grand Prix
