One of the most dramatic dry-weather qualifying sessions of the year took place under the lights at Singapore and Fernando Alonso took a surprise pole position from Sebastian Vettel. Look back at the action from qualifying and final practice with the selection of pictures below.
Fernando Alonso will start from pole position for the second race in a row after pipping Sebastian Vettel in qualifying at Singapore. The two McLarens will start from the second row of the grid with Lewis Hamilton ahead of Jenson Button.

Sebastian Vettel was on top once again in the third practice session at Singapore. He was six-tenths of a second quicker than Fernando Alonso with Lewis Hamilton three tenths further behind. The other Ferrari of Felipe Massa was fourth ahead of Nico Rosberg, Mark Webber and Nico H?â??lkenberg.

The key question after second practice is how close would Fernando Alonso have been to the two Red Bulls if he hadn’t gone off during his first lap on super-soft tyres? Combining their best sector times from the session shows there would have been very little in it.

Championship leader Mark Webber was fastest in first practice at Singapore. The session started on a wet track and the championship contenders avoided the first hour of running as the track dried out, waiting until the later stages to set their first flying laps.
