Four drivers will go into the final weekend of the Formula E championship with a shot at the title. Highlights of their latest race plus IndyCar, NASCAR, WTCC and more.
If you’re looking for a close title battle, now’s the time to cast your gaze beyond F1.
We’re all F1 fanatics here but even with a biggest-ever calendar of 19 races this year that still leaves 33 F1-free weekends. So what’s the other must-see racing action in 2010 this year? Here’s my top ten picks – name yours below.
I’ve been at Oulton Park today watching the British Formula Three and GT races. I was opposite the start line as the 2009 F3 championship got under way and pole sitter Max Chilton made one of the most hilariously blatant jump starts I’ve ever seen – have a look for yourself:
Nico H?â??lkenberg won the first of the two F3 races at Barcelona this weekend. And although he failed to score in the second race he nonetheless extended his championship lead over rivals Edoardo Mortara, Renger van der Zande and Christian Vietoris.
A disqualification and a start line crash opened the way for Renger van der Zande to score his second victory of 2008. After Nico H?â??lkenberg was disqualified from the first race van der Zande found himself third on the grid for the second race behind Niall Breen and Robert Wickens. As the race got underway … Continue reading Renger van der Zande cruises to Zandvoort win (F3)
Nico H?â??lkenberg finished first on the road in the F3 Euroseries feature race at Zandvoort. With championship rival Edoardo Mortara spinning out. H?â??lkenberg was poised to take the lead in the title race. But H?â??lkenberg was sensationally stripped of his win after stewards found his car 3kg under the 540kg minimum weight limit – a … Continue reading Zandvoort disqualification hits H?â??lkenberg’s title hopes (F3)
I have mixed feelings about the news the British Formula Three championship is considering uniting on the same bill as the British Touring Car Championship. I enjoy both series very much, but I wonder if both on the same card would be too much of a good thing?
Jon Lancaster suffered this gigantic crash in the first round of the F3 Euroseries championship today. But the shocking somersault left him with only bruising. Lancaster hit the rear of Jean Karl Vernay’s car and flipped end-over-end, sliding off the track and clipping Dani Clos’s car before flipping the right way up again. Lancaster will … Continue reading Video: Jon Lancaster in huge F3 Euro crash
The championship contenders took a win apiece at Nogaro as Sebastien Buemi took a narrow win ahead of a host of pursuing ASM rivals. Buemi benefitted from second-placed Franck Mailleux stalling at the start to leap from sixth to second on lap one. Edoardo Mortara took the lead but lost it when he was called … Continue reading F3 Euro Nogaro 2: Buemi hangs on to win
Romain Grosjean cruised to a straightforward win at Nogaro with his ASM team mates in tow. Kamui Kobayashi followed him – a little too closely at times – to take second, while Nico Hulkenberg completed an ASM podium with third. Sebastien Buemi took fourth at the start and remained their till the end of a … Continue reading F3 Euro Nogaro 1: Grosjean wins as ASM dominate
Renger van der Zande took his first Formula Three victory after a pile-up at the start of the second race at Barcelona eliminated several competitors. Race one winner Edoardo Mortara was taken out in the crash along with Edoardo Piscopo, Tim Sandtler, Marco Holzer, Cyndie Allemann, Jonathan Summerton, Michael Patrizi, Basil Shaaban and Jean-Karl Vernay. … Continue reading F3 Euro Barcelona 2: Van der Zande’s first win
Edoardo Mortara won his second F3 race of the year in the first race at Barcelona, the start of which was delayed as heavy rain hit the Catalunya circuit. He chased early leader Nico H?âãÆ?é??lkenberg, who started the race from pole but spun off on lap eight. H?âãÆ?é??lkenberg caught Mortara to finish just over a … Continue reading F3 Euro Barcelona 1: Mortara takes wet win
Marko Asmer celebrated winning the British F3 championship in style with his tenth win from 20 starts this season. The Estonian came under sustained pressure from Carlin’s Niall Breen early in the race but a driver worthy of a champion secured him the win by 3.2s. Atte Mustonen claimed third after Jonathan Kennard went off … Continue reading British F3 Croft 2: Tenth win for Asmer
Marko Asmer clinched the British Formula Three championship in unusual style after retiring from the race with a blown engine. He effectively took the title when rival Maro Engel clashed with Carlin team mate Niall Breen at the first corner, ruining the German’s race. Asmer’s retirement on lap 12 handed the lead to Stephen Jelley … Continue reading British F3 Croft 1: Asmer seals crown
Harald Schlegelmilch became the latest reverse grid hero in the F3 Euroseries. He started from pole having finished eighth in yesterday’s race and kept the field at bay with an excellent display of defensive driving. Title duellists Grosjean and Buemi could do nothing to unseat the Latvian – who hadn’t even scored a point before … Continue reading F3 Euro Nurburgring 2: Schlegelmilch snatches win
Nico Hulkenberg has hit his stride in the middle of the season. Hist victory at the N?âãÆ?é??rburgring was his second in a row in the F3 Euroseries and third F3 win in succession following his triumph in the Masters at Zolder. With five races left in the All-Japan Formula Three series the title will likely be won by one of three drivers. Home racer Kazuya Oshima has a seven-point lead after victories in the last three rounds. He is seven points ahead of Roberto Streit, a Brazilian driver in his fourth season of F3. Streit has … Continue reading Three-way title fight in Japanese F3
Thruxton served up two debut winners as Atte Mustonen scored his first British F3 victory to match the feat of Double R team mate Stephen Jelley in the first race. Once again championship leader Marko Asmer had a … Continue reading British F3 Thruxton 2: Mustonen’s turn to triumph
