35 drivers participated in the 1993 season but 13 of them failed to score any points. Michael Schumacher, in his second full season with Benetton-Ford, scored 52 points, 17 fewer than Damon Hill in his first full season with Williams-Renault.

Although Ayrton Senna finished 26 points down on Alain Prost and won five races, he wasn’t really able to challenge for the title in the underpowered McLaren-Ford. Nonetheless, he shaded Prost early in the season.
