Although team mate Vitantonio Liuzzi tended to have the upper hand in qualifying, Speed was often quicker in the races.
Speed nearly scored a point in the Australian Grand Prix after crossing the line in eighth place. But it emerged he’d passed David Coulthard under yellow flags and was bumped back to a point-less ninth, which turned out to be the best result of his career.
Both remained with the team for 2007. But, despite suffering several car failures and finishing a strong ninth in Monte-Carlo, Speed was acrimoniously dropped after an argument with team boss Franz Tost at the European Grand Prix. He then moved the NASCAR, still with Red Bull backing.
