The F1.08 was the most competitive car produced by BMW-Sauber. Although its predecessor the F1.07 earned the team’s highest constructors’ championship position, second, that came thanks to McLaren’s exclusion from the championship due to the ‘spygate’ controversy.

With the F1.08 BMW-Sauber scored their first and only win, Robert Kubica leading a one-two in the Canadian Grand Prix. Kubica remained in the hunt for the drivers’ championship until the penultimate round, but BMW were outstripped in development by Ferrari and McLaren.

After BMW’s withdrawal from the sport at the end of 2009, Sauber resumed control of the team. In 2012 the team sliced one of its F1.08 chassis in half lengthwise to reveal the layout of the components inside.
