There were high hopes that the Caterham CT01 would propel the team (previously known as Lotus in 2010 and 2011) into contention in the midfield.
Early in the year the team’s progressed suggested the target was achievable. But from the mid-point of the season they looked less likely to challenge the Toro Rossos in front of them and more likely to come under threat from the Marussias behind.
Only in the final race of the year did Vitaly Petrov give the team their best result to date, 11th, to secure tenth overall in the constructors’ championship.
