Shane van Gisbergen has (probably) just set a record for the shortest retirement in sporting history. Ater announcing that he was going to walk away from the sport at the end of 2012, he has just announced that he has signed up with Tekno Autosports to race in 2013:

Although it is becoming apparent that the annoucement of his retirement was a ruse to get out of his contract, probably because he didn’t have much faith in driving a Mercedes for Erebus Motorsport.

Though the point is moot, he didnt actually “retire”. He declared on his facebook page last night that he needed to take a break from racing to clear his head and over the last couple of months he has done just that.

As a fellow Kiwi I cant wait to see Shane on the grid in AV8′s and especially so in V8ST. And a little bit of drifting in that Rattla V8 should ease his stress levels a bit.

The saga continues, with speculation that Erebus Motorsport (formerly Stone Brothers Racing) will seek a last-minute injunction from the courts in order to stop van Gisbergen from racing at this weekend’s Clipsal 500, and possibly force him to observe a clause in his contract that would prevent him from arcing for one year:
