I don’t know about you, but I have never really taken Auto GP seriously as one of the Formula 1 ‘feeder’ series. But today they have announced that the ancient Lola B05/52 chassis has been upgraded for the upcoming season. Enzo Coloni and Enrique Scalabroni have improved the car so that it is 2 seconds a lap faster than the old spec, which they claim makes the car just as fast as the GP2 and WSR 3.5 cars.

It’s not just about the speed, but it’s more about the talent of the drivers that makes a series a decent feeder series. For instance, the winner of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup has more chance of becoming F1-driver than the Formula 2 champion.

@matthijs Yup, couldn’t agree with that more. The disadvantage that Auto GP has is that there is no connection to Formula 1. GP2 and GP3 are of course in the same weekend as F1, and WSR 3.5 is connected via Renault. Auto GP still has a Lola chassis with a Zytek engine, so as long as they keep that chassis, I really can’t see the series becoming a success any time soon.

The test at Monza scheduled today has been cancelled. No prizes for guessing why. 10 days before the new season starts, only 5 drivers have been confirmed.
