Can’t help but feel sorry for Rob Austin. Shoestring budget, blew two engines last time and only just got this one in (which he reckons won’t last the weekend) and then he backs it into the wall! He was on Twitter earlier asking if there was a body shop around that could help rebuild his car. Not sure if he’ll start any races tomorrow.

I was watching Qualifying from the Pirtek Garage (that’s why Andy’s on pole, I brought him luck ;) haha) and that was quite cool when they got pole.

What a shocker of a session though, Plato, Neal, Neate and Austin all crashing and I agree totally with @jonnyw360f1, Austin has had such a poor run of luck. Normally he’s always chirpy, happy and willing to speak at lengths with the fans, but today he looked so upset and dejected. The engine only just arrived in time for Qualifying, and then he ends up off the circuit, such a shame.
Then again… he is running number 13…

If anyone has any images/videos of any incidents, I would be much appreciated it you could post them :)

Also, a shout out to Frank Wrathall… Yes son! :D

Gotta love a wet touring car racce. Sorry to my friends who are there tomorrow. You’ll get wet but hopefully you’ll see some great action.

Agreed, the races tomorrow should be brilliant whether wet or dry, either way, I dont care anymore, bring on the action! :D

Well it was my turn in the Pirtek garage today where I watched Race 1, the less said the better I think…

    I’m bad luck!

Hmmm, rather… wet racing today, the weather was so bad up at Thruxton my parents dragged us home after the first BTCC race! Can’t say it was disappointing though, the racing wasn’t exciting enough to stay up there getting wetter and colder and more miserable.
Still, Shedden was in a class of his own today, and well done to Wrathall for race 3, shame about Gilham.

Wow that looked wet! Think I picked a good one to miss…

@keithcollantine – You got that right! After just two races it was so cold, I’m sat here now, over 24 hours later, and it feels like my bones are made of ice I’m that cold inside!

Me @emmadouglas91 and @thescottwilkes faired slightly better making it to the end of the second BTCC before giving into the cold, all 3 of us survived the mud banks too!!
gutted we didnt see Steve Ryder again this weekend though :/

Steve and Tim were filming just outside the Honda garage where I started the day, if I got in their shot it would be the first time I’d have been on TV since January when I was in the Autosport Show advert! I went after the first race, I was cold, wet (my umbrella and turned inside out in the wind) and I wanted to get out before everyone else turned the car park into a mud bath. Did anyone else almost get stuck?

  • Profile picture of Ratboy Ratboy said 1 year ago:

as we left after race 2 many had left but the car park was still farily solid, surface mud but ground quite stiff.
though I have mud up all the windows after just planting the throttle :D childish I know

We were very lucky getting out, just as we got in the car, they opened the gate in the bottom corner and we were like, the fifth car through :L.
Can’t help but feel sorry for the people at the end though, we saw people getting stuck when we left..
Oh, and we were parked behind a dark gray VW Passat with a smashed rear window, and the bloke either didn’t notice of didn’t care. But his child must have been in the back sat on broken glass! :/

well I for one stayed the whole day, i was so cold in the morning but about 3 o’clock it either started getting warmer or i was just used to it by then, might have helped that i was sat in the grandstand though, but the most exciting race for me was the second porsche race were alot of the splitters came off the cars, and they’re were allot of spinners in that chicane aswell.

On the way out there were quite a few people getting stuck in the mud but luckily we were able to get out without a problem, overall i enjoyed the racing live although i have nothing to compare it to but did not enjoy the weather.

I was there in the Saturday and because I didn’t have my gloves in me, my hands went very numb to the extent I couldn’t open a packet of crisps :D. Also met Ahmed Al Hardi and I was chatting to him just before the Porsche qualifying and he was wearing jeans, t shirt and a bomber command esq jacket and he was one of the nicest guys I have ever met. I also gave the Ginetta Junior drivers some advice ” don’t use the slicks ” :p All in all though, I will never forget it and those who were there last year on Saturday and Sunday are proper, British, motor racing fans.
