    @chops Thanks for that mate!

Looking at the video above, it appears VERY wet. Does anyone know what the forecast is? Are they predicting rain?

It’s drying up – if there’s any more rain it’ll be early on and then dry for the rest of the race.
    Track’s still a bit wet.

Impressive live streams with the live timing here:

You can choose between onboard cameras on the Audis, the no 7 Toyota, Delta Wing, JRM, Brundle & Son, the Signatech Nissan and Corvettes. Awesome!

Bad news for Strakka, looks like they’ve lost a lap with gearbox trouble at the start. So has the no.16 Pescarolo – which seems to have a curse on it…already down to two drivers.

What a horrific accident for Anthony Davidson. Hope he makes a speedy recovery from his broken back – could have been far far worse.

I watched 17 hours of the race (I went to bed in the middle) and I enjoyed it very much, it was a shame about what happened to the Delta Wing and the Toyotas though, especially to Ant and I hope he’s well soon. Maybe next year I’ll watch the whole race!

Does anyone know when the dates for the 2013 race will be announced?

I’m hoping to go next year while I’m in Europe so I want to start planning soon! :)

All in all a good race. Too bad for the Toyotas: they were not doing so bad until both of them retired. And it was generally exciting until a few hours from the end with the hybrid Audis.

For next year I hope for some more competition for Audi: Toyota probably, and hopefully some other brands like Porsche or Peugeot. Also I hope we don’t see anymore Davidson/McNish-like crashes.

plenty of good moments in a just ok race, i think. what i found most exciting was the proposed 2014 rules – totally open power configuration, with meaningful limits on total fuel and fuel rate. i’m not as thrilled with mandatory closed cockpits

  • Profile picture of robk23 robk23 said 11 months ago:

I’m totally in favour of closed cockpits. If it wasn’t for a close cockpit, Allan McNish probably wouldn’t have walked away from his crash at Le Mans last year.

He might have had a better view and never hit the Ferrari though.

  • Profile picture of robk23 robk23 said 11 months ago:

The Ferrari couldn’t see McNish because he was in a blind spot and coming up the side of another Audi behind, McNish didn’t see the Ferrari because it was right in front of the other Audi. The only real problem with closed cockpits is they have massive blind spots either side of the windscreen, adding a smaller window either side of the windscreen or extending the windscreen around the cockpit would reduce rigidity though and distort the driver’s view.

@F1Yankee: Do you have a source on those 2014 regulations? I don’t mind the closed cockpits at all, and since it looks like FIA is going to introduce them in F1 in the future as well (with the testing of driver protection and such) I think you’re better off getting used to them!

@roald: i heard it from the commentators. they said it was proposed friday and could be official later this year.

it seems aco plans to continue with gasoline/diesel balancing. this has been a weakness since they started it, and 2014 would have been the perfect time to get rid of it.
