The World Endurance Championship takes steps to try to limit escalating costs related to aero development of the LMP1 cars, which is completely understandable considering that many major series sealed their fate when they were billed with the ‘escalating costs’ label.

Compared to F1’s bit complicated CFD restriction rule, however, which limits the flow mesurement unit of teraflops, WEC simply limits the number of hours teams can spend in the windtunnel, claiming the above call ‘is a lot harder to police.’

Also, WEC plans to introduce a specific limit on the number of aero configurations manufactuers can use during a season – which could also be a good idea for F1 as its teams’ broadly use distinct configurations as it is.
