    @keithcollantine to fix the oversize image, remove this…

    img.size-medium, img.attachment-large {
    height: 100%;
    }

    it only effects safari, and removing it seams to have no negative effect to other browsers

    Not really a problem, maybe more of a suggestion – on the forum there should be a link to the latest post of a topic.

    @keithcollantine
    Incorrect header display at intermediate widths e.g. 1024px

    If you add ‘min-width:1250px’ to #header default.css:139

    not ideal, but everyone likes a bodge :)

    @Enigma “on the forum there should be a link to the latest post of a topic.”

    The forum can be ordered by “last active” under forum home, this will show you the latest post. Is this what you were after?

    @arowan No, I meant the ‘Last Post’ – where it says, for example, 22 minutes ago – you could click on that and it took you to the latest post, that’s how it used to be.

    Also, the links to comments (from Activity) aren’t precise – you have to scroll up a vee bit to get to the comment.

    Image height stretching in Safari

    OK have made some progress with this – have a look at the images in the Marussia article, this now look fine to me in Safari. Still some way to go on making it look correct all across the site though:

    Thanks @arowan for your suggestion on this – it wasn’t the whole solution but it was part of it! I will probably use a version of your header ‘bodge’ to get that looking straight for a while.

    If anyone else is interested in helping F1 Fanatic with problems like this do let me know via this link, it’s always useful to know technical people to bounce ideas off and chase solutions with:

    @keithcollantine, in mobile safari the images are still stretching, but to varying degrees. On the roundup & the HRT article the images are just a little stretched. Ironically the Marussia article still has the image stretched to an extreme.

    Edit: now the Marussia article is loading like the others, mildly stretched. I just checked the articles with my phone, and they seem to be loading fine there, no stretching, so it appears to only be affecting the iPad version of mobile safari at this point. The driver helmets article and the “invite a friend to f1f” article both load fine on the iPad without any stretching that I can detect. Those articles seem to have smaller images. All the articles with a large image are still stretching on iPad mobile safari, but not iPhone mobile safari. Hope that info helps.

    On the “advertise” page is anyone else getting a large amount of white space underneath the footer, because the list of active members seems stretched?

  • Profile picture of Keith Collantine Keith Collantine said 1 year, 2 months ago:

    @us_peter Thanks for that, very helpful, if a little baffling!

    @keithcollantine, now the images are back to being stretched pretty extremely for me in iPad Safari. I’ve emailed you a video as an example, since a screenshot can’t really show it. iPhone safari is now loading the site completely differently for me as well. I’ll send you a screenshot of that also. It’s showing the categories across the header each as a separate bar, then the article as a narrow column on the left.

    OK made a few more tweaks:

    Reduced the width of video in the forum – ideally will later have a proper solution which allows them to resize with the content area.

    The image resizing problem on mobile Safari has been tied into the site not scaling down correctly. I’ve made some progress on this, it’s still not completely there but it’s better than it was. Feedback from anyone using mobile iOS devices would be appreciated.

    Stopped the ad moving around in the header (thanks @arowan)

    Fixed incorrect colouring in some menus

    Cosmetic improvements including making the forum titles less bold

    Thanks for the feedback and tips so far everyone, keep ‘em coming!

    Sorry to report, I’m running android gingerbread and the images are massively stretched in the y dimension. Today’s round up I had to scroll down about 95% of the page to get to the text.

    I think it may just be the mobile version of the site because on my laptop (running Opera browser) the new site does indeed look very nice.

    No image stretching on iOS anymore here. The overall experience is suffering a bit, with almost no rescaling and nested comments getting very small (x-dimension).

  • Profile picture of US_Peter US_Peter said 1 year, 2 months ago:

    I agree, nested comments are very difficult now on a phone, but that may just be the nature of the beast trying to view a website on a phone. Everything seems to be loading perfectly now in mobile safari, no more image stretching. Thanks Keith!
