Just had a look at F1F via my iPhone (iOS5.1, Safari):

    The Good
    Main articles are fine.
    Images are fine now.

    The Not-so-good
Nested comments are difficult to view/read.
The info links at the top (F1 2012, Info, Features etc.) are very large on-screen and there’s a bit of scrolling before I hit the start of the article.
The info at the bottom (2012 F1 drivers, teams etc.) is all squashed into the left.

Other than that things are good.

From what I’ve read above, this should be a simple fix for you. Please add an “confirmation email didn’t arrive – send it again” button on the new account verification page. I run my own mail server and your site helo’s with an invalid hostname “F1WB01.f1fanatic.co.uk” (ie it doesn’t exist in dns) and doesn’t respect greylisting (you wouldn’t be greylisted if you employed fcrdns). I overcame both problems by whitelisting you – of course, I couldn’t whitelist you until I found out what you were (mis)using so there are two unverified new accounts on your system. Presumably, they’ll expire so no problem with that.

I couldn’t find an ‘exit mobile edition’ button on my iPhone 4 using Safari. I’m not entirely sure there is one, but I know there used to be, and I have to say I preferred using the main edition on my phone. But this mobile edition is so much better than before, so I guess I can manage. ;)

@jameshill Thanks, I’ll look into that.

    @pjtierney @verstappen @us_peter @john-h

I’ve made a further tweak to the site layout which should further improve the look on phone browsers. If the menu was looking too big and the content too small for you before, check it out and let me know what you think.

This is a compromise at present – it means the header is now a bit messy on intermediate screen sizes around 1024px but I’ve got a fix planned for that which I’ll get done later.

@keithcollantine, articles look a lot better now on my phone, however nested comments are now completely unreadable at the deepest two levels of nesting. They’re forced so far over to the right that they’re outside the viewable margins of the page.

The site looks a lot better now on an iPad. The images are no longer stretching at all.

Is it just me, or did the make-up buttons (fat, italics, link, b-quote, etc.) disappear from the reply box below articles. As far as I remember, yesterday they were still there.

@keithcollantine Only in todays round up, the image is a bit stretched. Just slightly, compared to the first days. For the rest, I’m afraid I can only confirm what US_Peter says. It makes commenting a rather strange experience: yesterday when I made a comment on the Who will win the battle… article, I couldn’t get a space after estimate. When I pressed the spacebar twice, the word got shortened to estimat. – including the full stop. So that’s why I tried an enter. This worked, although the comment looks a bit odd with that enter in the middle of it (on Chrome – where I’m typing this).

The top links are better now, just the right size. The black is a bit off-putting though. Have you considered making them the same as the blue banners in terms of font size/weight, but have them in green. I can see what you were going for, in having the black play off the rest of the site’s colour pallette, but personally I think it feels a little too strong.

The images are better than before, but still slightly stretched. One thing that might work which I do on my blogs is to set the .post img to max-width=100%; and leave the height as it is, as it’ll scale down anyway. It may be different for you since you’re using Wordpress (I use Blogger) but worth a shot.

Nested comments are no better than before. If there’s an option to simply remove the indent on them when viewing on mobile that’s all that needs doing, as the background/borders can still separate them fine.

I must say that the issue of not being able to jump to the last page of a forum thread is still the biggest issue about the site for me. It just adds an extra click and extra loading time, so is a real pain for accessing long threads such as the F1 2011 leagues.

I think this can be most easily solved by making the time stamp of the most recent message in the right column of the forum directory a link to either the last page or the last post.

@keithcollantine, I just noticed in the new article on Heikki’s helmet that if I click on a thumbnail to view an individual image (e.g. http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2012/03/15/kovalainen-angry-birds-helmet-design-pictures/kova_halmet_2012_aust/) the main image on that page is stretching the image vertically to a square using mobile Safari. The thumbnails appear fine. I also checked the full 2012 drivers’ helmets article and individual photos from that article are doing the same thing. Other photo articles don’t seem to be doing this though, e.g. I checked the first image from the final winter test day 4 in pictures article, and it appears as it should.

Also unrelated, I second what @ed24f1 says, it would be nice to have a direct link to the most recent page of a forum thread.

This isn’t a major problem and sorry if it has been mentioned already but the poll in the article for best looking car of 2012 comes up as the poll for who will win the drivers championship.

An option to turn the mobile site off would be great. There used to be one. I think the normal site looks and works better than the mobile site. Cheers

@KeithCollantine For some reason all of the charts in the Friday Practice data article are cut off on the right hand side for me, I’m using the latest Chrome browser on Windows 7. The only way I can view everything is to go into the Chrome settings and change the font size to small and the page zoom to 80%

I don’t know if this is just a spacing issue with my computer or if it’s the article margins.
