Filling in for Ollie seemed like a good idea, until I remembered just how this league operated.
Quali:
I managed a decent lap of 1:25.9xx on the options, which after being beaten by Moss, put me in second for most of the session. Then F199 went quicker, and eventually Brooksy. I went out with a few minutes remaining to try and beat my time, but in sector 1, a McLaren was running slow on the racing line, so whilst trying to avoid it, I cut the chicane, which ended my attempt already.
I psyched myself up for another run, and it was going well, I was going faster in sectors 1 and 2, but then a Force India was on the racing line, and I had to adjust my line, which put me into a spin, ending any attempt at improving on 4th.
Race:
I was pleased to see the race was wet, just like my F2 race. I knew I could get a better start than I did yesterday, and that my opening laps might be a bit better than most.
I got a very good start off the line, and was alongside Brooksy and F199, although F199 was pushing me right, which meant I was pushing Brooksy. I backed off a little and made it round the corner, still in 4th, but then I was hit, by a Sauber I think, which put me into a spin, and so I was last.
I pushed on, and found Moss behind me I think, I was trying to give him space, whilst defending my line, and thankfully didn’t make any contact, but eventually he was through, because I wasn’t quick enough. I think at some point I saw a load of cars spin out, and this put me up to 5th, with the threat of heavy rain on the way in 5 minutes. I did two more laps before pitting for full wets, which was a lap before most I think.
A few laps later, I was ahead of Moss, but decided to let him through, although I don’t think he noticed that I left the door wide open, because he took a long time to pull the move off. It seemed like a good idea, until I was right up his gearbox for about 2 laps, before he inevitably pulled away.
The race pretty much ended there, I was in 3rd, with no hopes of catching Moss and F199, unless they had a coming together, and eventually I was about 16 seconds behind Moss and 17-18 seconds in front of Bradley. However, on the penultimate lap, I was about to lap a Force India, but instead of moving out of the way, they stayed on the racing line, and I had nowhere to go, so I lost my front wing, had to pit at the end of the lap, and lost 3rd and 4th.
I know some of you guys are very fast, but the quality of racing here is much worse in comparison to the F2 league, and I think even if I do promote, I might just stay there, because I enjoy racing them much more than here, because there are far fewer collisions and arguments from the entire season, than you guys have in one race here.
