    Mediocre race

    Q: 8th

    R: 6th

Squeezed through the predictable first corner carnage to get up to 5th. Passed by Iamsa8 , Asanator and Abbmacher in the opening stint. Both Abbmacher and Asanator kept disappearing and reappearing on my screen, meaning that several times I’d pass only to see them a few seconds up the road again. Not much happened for the rest of the race. Asanator broke his front wing and Abbmacher appeared to crash into the pit entrance during the race, promoting me to 6th. Asanator was closing in the final stint, but got DQed.

I’m thankful that we can get to a decent circuit now :)

Bradley decided that in the absence of Jez, that I would fill in as his team mate :P

    Qualifying:
I went out on primes, to do a single lap. I think my time was a 1:34.3xx, which was enough to put me 4th, after everyone had set a time. I didn’t really like the idea of starting there though, and with a lot of people on primes, I thought I’d take a risk and go out on options, which put me second for a few seconds, before Ed crossed the line and I was 3rd.

    Race:
I got a good start, taking both Brooksy and Ed on the first corner (Or so I thought, because Brooksy was never ahead of my during the whole race xD). Me and Ed were fighting for the first stint, with Shane joining us towards the end. It was a good tussle, which was clean.
I pitted a lap earlier than both of them, which meant I came out behind, and as I was saving fuel and on primes, ready for a full rev, full push 7 laps on fresh options at the end, which caused me to start losing time to Ed, and lose time to Iamsa8 who was catching me on options, I assume.
When Iamsa8 was with me, I gave him a lot of room into turn 1, because I knew he was a lot faster. This didn’t seem enough for him though, as he just rammed into the side of me, pushing me into the wall and then I lost my front wing. So I lost 15-odd seconds having to do a lap without a front wing, then a pit stop, which was too early for options, so I had to do 2 stints of primes, which of course cost me more time. I could understand if I had defended vigorously, but I was letting him through.
Anyway, because of that incident, I was never on the pace again, and had to settle for 5th, despite having pace to fight for the podium with Ed *Shrug*

Good race apart from that incident.

Despite the end penalty, it was a really fun race for me and a great way for me to sign off for a year.

Qualifying was good, I put in a pretty good lap and just missed pole by 0.038 or something. Still, a front row start was good at this track, as it turned out, as I avoided the chaos – but did lose one spot to JF.

Later on Lap 1, I passed JF and started catching Brooksy. I wasn’t able to get past, at one point, we banged wheels at the end of the 2nd DRS zone and I dropped to 3rd. I noticed some small lag with him, so perhaps it was more of this. I got back past JF again briefly but was now a few seconds behind Brooksy. JF was able to get back ahead of me, but I can’t remember the circumstances to be honest. JF pitted on Lap 6, so I had to nail my next lap as I planned to pit on Lap 7. I did so and came out about a second ahead of him. Even better, with my next couple of laps, I was able to pass Brooksy on cold tyres into Turn 4 just after he pitted.

After that, Brooksy and I had another good battle with lots of passing and re-passing in the DRS zones. I think at one point I missed my braking mark at the end of the 2nd DRS zone and put us both wide which was unfortunate. One lap when I was down the inside at the end of the 1st DRS zone, I was too generous and in trying to leave lots of room on the outside, just slightly cut the corner and got a penalty. This was unfortunate as it ended my chances of winning but I still wanted to put in a good show and win on track if possible.

On Lap 16 I was behind Brooksy, but pitted before him again and came out in clean air. I was able to undercut him again and pulled away in the next couple of laps on fresh option tyres. Shane went for a one stop strategy, and I was starting to catch him towards the end as his tyres faded. On the 2nd last lap, I got into the DRS zone and made a fairly simple pass at the end of the 1st zone. After that, I just had to bring the car home, and had about a 1 second cushion to Brooksy.

Thanks to everyone for a great race, and I look forward to re-joining the series next year!

@ed24f1 – It was brilliant that you won on track, and, providing @BROOKSY007 agree’s I don’t believe your penalty should stand.

    Anyway… my race.
Was going to Qualify, but discovered I was amazingly slow, so kept giving up on my laps. On my final lap (on options) I was 1.7 seconds down, and decided to abandon the lap and try a 1-stopper from the back.

This plan immediately backfired though. I got an average start, and was very lucky to not punt Asanator off the road at turn 1, before getting into turn 2 and encountering carnage. I had two car’s sideways across my nose and got a 10-second penalty :/. Then, into turn 4, I was braking with @aus_steve behind me and suddenly got punted and went flying off. I’m pretty sure this was LAG so I can’t blame him, but this totally screwed my race as I ended up in the wall with a puncture and no front wing. I lost half a minute dragging the car to the pits and the pitstop and came out 45 seconds behind anyone.
I started on the Primes and put primes on again to try and still effectively do a 1-stopper and towards the end of the stint the tyres fell off, and @abboracing (who had obviously had problems) was catching me. He was lagging really badly though so I pulled wide at the penultimate hairpin and let him through. Due to LAG though, he was slow through the fast corners, and it caught me out. I hit him, we both spun, and I broke my front wing, again. I pitted a few laps later (my scheduled stop) and lost another heap of time as they tried to find another front wing for me. I then trundled around at the back until the final lap, where @abboracing went wide at turn 1 and I was right up with him. I passed into turn 4, and he got me back into the DRS zone. (It was very clean considering I’d experienced severe LAG with him earlier in the race). I then made a very late move down the inside at the penultimate hairpin, but clattered into him and pushed us both wide. I felt bad so pulled wide to let him back through, but he was there so he pushed me along, so I pulled to the other side to let him through :L. I thought my chance was gone, until he went wide at the final corner. I got a brilliant entry and exit to and from the corner, and outdragged him to line. I couldn’t believe it, I was so hysterical. By the way @abboracing – I really enjoyed our final lap battle :)

and finally @ed24f1 – It’s been brilliant having you here, and you better keep in contact or I will send men round… I look forward to your return next year and hope you thoroughly enjoy your trip. It’s been a pleasure having you since the start mate, enjoy your sabbatical! :)

I qualified 4th on the primes. That was actually better than I expected – but I was annoyed with myself for not getting a clean lap in for the rest of the session, because looking at the times I could have had a shot at pole. Surprised with my pace, I was confident going into the race.

But something everyone seems to have conveniently forgot (with all due respect) is how monumentally shafted I got at the start…stewards? Anyone behind me? I really don’t see how anyone can be complaining after my last two races…

Nonetheless, I thought I’d stick around. I was a great race to spectate. I enjoyed the comeback of my new team mate @aus_steve , caught most of the EPIC battle between @ed24f1 and @BROOKSY007 (great sportsmanlike driving, by the way) and of course the ultra close finish between @bradley13 and @abboracing .

@electrolite – I saw your incident, but didn’t if you get me. So much kicked off, it was chaos. BUT, I did record my race (if it actually recorded) so it should be on there :)

It was me who collided with @electrolite im afraid.. I would like to see a video before I say anything..
I did feel really bad that I ruined your race.. Im really sorry man.. :(

@bradley13 |Glad you enjoyed out last few laps tussle, I overdrive the last corner and had to slow a lot too avoid the pit wall, that gave you the run on me. Well done.
I am a bit unhappy as into turn 1 i was on the inside of someone. ( 2 wheels on the pit exit kerb) with no car to be seen on my left. Then I was punted into the run off for turn 2 and given a penalty! I cannot understand it. Upon returning to the track from the run off, left into turn 2 (blind corner) I ran into a broadside ferrari @asanator I think in a gaggle of cars and was given a 2nd penalty,

from then on race was ruined, I did enjoy the last stint chasing @bradley down, even if I threw it all away on the final turn

    Well done all

Oh and @bradley13 I did note you pulling over to let me back through, Jolly good show old chap! That’s racing!

  • Profile picture of ed24f1 ed24f1 said 10 months, 3 weeks ago:

    Thanks @bradley13 , I really appreciate it.

However, I don’t think it’s fair that the penalty doesn’t stand, at the end of the day, it was my fault for having one too many warnings.

  • Profile picture of Bradley Downton Bradley Downton said 10 months, 3 weeks ago:

@ed24f1 – Ah, I misunderstood. I thought you meant you got it for an illegal overtake :/, which of course, you’d let back through.

  • Profile picture of ShaneB457 ShaneB457 said 10 months, 2 weeks ago:

Soooo… a bit quiet here recently :) @bradley13 do you have a video of the race?

  • Profile picture of Bradley Downton Bradley Downton said 10 months, 2 weeks ago:

Sorry guys, I’ve been working a lot recently, hope I’ll have everything sorted on Sunday, (I’ve got this day off! :P haha)

  • Profile picture of electrolite electrolite said 10 months, 2 weeks ago:

I won’t be able to race next Sunday. Which is probably good timing, as I’ve always been rubbish at Silverstone. Like, really bad…
