@Formula-1 – Sorry to hear about that, and I assure you that there will be a full enquiry. Personally, I think Moss was a little quick for the first half of the lap, and didn’t back the pack up sufficiently, but nothing can be done about that now.
Quali – 2nd
I had a pretty decent qualifying session, spending the majority of it +0.183 ahead of Moss, in provisional pole position, and it had been my best time to date, though I felt that there was more to come. After @Alfie disconnected, I went out for 3 flying laps. The first two were pretty terrible, but the third (Just after @Moss-611 had snatched pole) was look a whole lot better. I was two tenths up in the first sector, a tenth and a half from Moss’ time, and the second sector was good as well, though I messed up the exit of the penultimate corner, which then messed up the final turn, which meant that I didn’t improve, which was a little disappointing.
Race – 2nd
Safety car restart for Alfie. I could only really see myself, Moss, @Olliekart and @Afroholic during this lap, and as I eluded to earlier, I think Moss was going a little too quickly. But anyway, Moss shot out of the final corner, as expected and I followed him down. I didn’t get a good enough run into turn 1, but it was looking a lot better for turn 4. Moss went wide, and handed me the lead, and I was able to build a nice gap as he and Afro fought for second.
Suddenly though, the rain had come, and was making the track wet a lot faster than I had anticipated, meaning I suddenly had no grip. I pitted for inters, falling back into third, but I re-took the lead when others pitted. I don’t think Oli or Ahmed went onto inters though, they had somehow made the wets work, meaning that I came out in second, 7 seconds behind Ahmed when I put the full wets on, and only a second in front of Oli.
We fought for a few laps, until he inevitably got through. I couldn’t match him for this period, but as soon as I put the inters back on, I was flying. Soon caught up to Oli, who hadn’t bothered with the inters, and flew passed, setting about catching Ahmed.
The track was becoming dry, and I gambled on a set of options. I came out, and slid the car through turn 4, not being able to get the power down. I lost quite a lot of time here, probably a good 6-7 seconds at least. Each lap I became more confident though, as I found the dry line, and was soon catching Ahmed at 2 seconds a lap. It calmed down towards the end, but during that period I got the gap down from 30 seconds, to 11, so overall, pretty good. Set the fastest lap of 1:12.308. In hindsight, I would have pitted one lap later for the options, but that’s neither here nor there now :P
Congrats to @Afroholic, definitely deserved of the win. I’m more happy to increase my Championship lead than anything, and to gain some points on Ferrari in the Constructor’s as well!
Great race guys!
