Quali – 3rd
My plan was to qualify on primes, as I felt it was the more consistent race tyre to start the race with. In hindsight, I could have easily taken pole on primes, and I wouldn’t have had to try and overtake Theo, but ah well :P
Race – Provisional 1st
Decent start, but @Bradley13 on options got off the line a little better. I did end up overtaking him when he made a mistake. Set about catching Teo, as Dylan was already out of the running.
My pace was a little better than his initially, even on primes, but the dirty air just wouldn’t allow me to get close enough to make a move. What made it worse was that my DRS stopped working on lap 7, I think, so all chance of overtaking with that went out the window.
Teo pitted on lap 10, and I continued on until lap 16, where I came out just over 6 seconds behind. I quickly caught up, but the same thing happened. I just couldn’t get close enough where it was necessary. Had a few hairy moments during our battles, but I always let Teo back through.
EDIT: I didn’t return from off the track, I was still on it :P
All in all, despite the odd little moments, Teo did a great job today. I don’t know if his penalties were deserving or not, but it was a fun race from my perspective…
…and besides, what REALLY matters is that I won the Championship :D
