Despite the lack of attendance, I think this was a good race to end 2012 on.
Quali – 1st
Set a decent first couple of laps, which turned out to be enough for pole in the end. Was about 1.8/9 seconds ahead of @Electrolite, though he was on primes. Went back out later on, but made a mistake on my first lap, and the DRS didn’t work on the second, so I retired, 8 tenths in front of Dylan and maybe 1.5 ahead of Tom? Something like that.
Race – 1st
Got a great start off the line and went smoothly through Eau Rouge unhindered, and watched as Dylan went wide behind me. A few seconds later, @Electrolite was out of the race. Not sure what happened there, but I’m sure we’ll know soon enough. By the end of the first lap, I was nigh on 2 seconds in front of second and the gap continued to increase to about 6 seconds, where I decided to stop pushing so hard and just set consistent laps.
The rain was set to come at some point during the race, so I stayed out on the options, knowing they could pretty much do most of the race without too much wear.
Just over half way through the race, I started pushing again, opening the gap up to about 11/12 seconds before the rain came. I think @Bradley13 may have come in a tad early for inters, which could have cost him second, but who knows. I increased the gap to Dylan by a couple of seconds when pitting for inters.
I think lap 18/19 was when it began to get really wet, so I pitted for wets, hoping I hadn’t made a stupid mistake. Came out about 4 seconds in front of Dylan, but quickly increased that to 14 seconds by the end of the lap, as he was still on inters, and the wets were working well.
Cruised to the finish 37 seconds in front of second place, and just over a minute in front of Bradley, so not too shabby :P
A pretty enjoyable race, I felt I could push the car, which was nice. As I said, it was a great way to end F1 2012, and I’m really looking forward to getting back to racing you guys on 2013!
