Quali – 1st
A half decent first run, claiming provisional pole with a 1:34.8, but there was definitely time on the table. Went back out with 5 minutes to go and improved to a 1:34.6, but again it wasn’t a perfect lap, so I was really happy with the car and the pace at this point. Can’t remember if I tried again, but I don’t think I improved. Was really happy to see @Bradley13 half a tenth behind me, locking out the front row by a good half second.
Race – 1st
Got a much better start than most, but was caught into the braking zone, where an optimistic @Pezlo2013 launched one up the inside, where there wasn’t any room and hit into the side of me, causing me to bounce off and hit @Shyguy2008. Luckily, I didn’t lose too much time, but I was down to third. Bradley then unfortunately spun at turn 4, handing Dylan the lead, and soon Shyguy was passed me.
Not sure what happened the following lap, it looked as though Shyguy was caught out by Dylan through turn 5, and perhaps hit him, causing the Ferrari to spin out a little, handing me back second place.
Dylan and I had a bit of a scrap, and I closed up, especially on lap four, keeping it clean and waiting for him to make a mistake, which he did at the penultimate corner, enabling me to get far closer in the DRS zone, come the final turn. I took a wide line, and we were side by side exiting the corner, but I had DRS as well, so by turn 1, I had the lead.
Dylan was able to keep with me, and at the end of lap 7, had DRS once more and despite being quite far back, still shot down the inside of turn 1. He went wide, giving me the inside line, but I knew he’d try and come back, so I took a wider line through turn 2, but he still hit straight into the side of me. Luckily again, as it was side on, I didn’t spin…though I think Dylan may have.
After that it was just about managing fuel and tyres. Pitted a lap earlier, so that the Mercs wouldn’t be held up by one another. Came out and was confident on the primes, though now I knew that @Electrolite would be doing the final stint on options, after checking the race director, so I pushed pretty hard, closing the gap down from 11 seconds to I think 7, before Luke pitted. Weirdly, he didn’t have the pace I was expecting, and seemed to be under more pressure from Bradley. Though at this point, I was cruising to the end. The last thing I wanted to do was make a mistake.
Had a weird little fight with Shyguy in the remaining few laps, despite him being a lap down, but oh well. I just turned the engine down and let him re-pass. Didn’t want a collision xD
Good race guys :) (Video up soon)
