Hadn’t done any practice, bar a few laps before the race, when I woke up. Given that I had only just recovered from what can only be described as the best Friday night I’ve ever had, I was already on the back foot, and for this race I wasn’t the JB of the league…more like the James Hunt to be honest :P
Quali – 2nd
Got a good first lap in, and didn’t proceed to go any quicker than that, which was good for the tyres, but the car still felt slow, so it was a little underwhelming. Apologies to @Electrolite, I blocked you coming out of the pits, and desperately tried to move on to the grass. Whether I did effect you or not, I’m not sure, but I’m sorry nevertheless.
Race – 2nd
Got a good start off the line, and was able to take Oli into turn 1. He fell back due to incidents you can see above. Tried to keep consistent and pull away from Luke, which I was able to do, and I think by lap 7 or 8, Oli had finally made his way back to second, and was chasing me down. The tyres were starting to go off, and by lap 11, Oli was through as I had no grip.
I pitted a lap earlier than scheduled and continued the race, which by this point was pretty lonely. Passed both Oli and Tom when they had to pit, and then Oli began chasing me down again. He got passed on lap 25, but I was able to at least keep within a couple of seconds until the end when Oli had to turn down the fuel, and quite possibly had tyres that were passed their best. Had I pushed a little earlier, I may have caught him, but that’s neither here nor there. Given that I had done very little practice, I’m very happy with second, having only finished 4 tenths behind the race winner.
