Quali – 3rd
I was pretty happy with quali. I knew Bradley was quicker than me, so I elected to start on primes, and was very happy to start third, only 7-8 tenths down on Bradley and Oli :)
Race – 2nd
With 47% chance of rain, and me starting on primes, I was feeling pretty confident, hoping that the rain would come after those on options had pitted.
Got hit into turn 1, despite a good start, which broke my front wing. Came back on, battling with David, but luckily I was able to retain third place, and chase down Oli and Bradley. My pace was pretty good in comparison, especially as I was on primes and had a damaged front wing, but eventually Bradley made a mistake, allowing me through. I was going to let him back through, but he was never quite close enough, and I wasn’t going to slow right down.
Oli pulled away a little each lap, but less than I had expected. My game plan was still on…that was until we reached lap 20 and Oli still hadn’t pitted…nor had the rain come.
Had I known that the options lasted that long, I would definitely have started on them, but hindsight is a great thing. Tried to be the first on to inters, hoping that it would benefit me, but I lose a good 5-6 seconds because of it, at least. Anyway, second wasn’t too bad, but I still need to do better in future.
D.O.D has to be Bradley for me. Although Oli was very good, I think Bradley drove a great lap in quali, and put on a good performance in the race.
