Quali – 1st
Went out immediately for a run, though as I was starting my flying lap, @Bradley13 came out of the pits and blocks me during turns 4, 5 and 6, so I came back into the pits to fit another set of options.
My second run was pretty decent, getting a 1:37.2 I think, but I was still a few tenths off of where I could have been.
Went out for one final run in the dying moments, and improved by a tenth, but still was a couple of tenths off of my ultimate. Still, it was enough for pole, which I’m very happy with :D
Race – 1st
Had a decent start, avoiding whatever went on behind me. Exited the corner with @Sato113 and @Bradley13 in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Theo was much faster than I thought, but I was able to eek out a little bit of an advantage each lap.
Come lap 9, I realised that the tyres weren’t holding up as well as I had expected, so I decided to pit a couple of laps earlier than scheduled, on lap 10. Came out with a sizeable lead of about 11-12 seconds on Theo, which continued to increase. It seemed that he wasn’t quite as fast on primes.
Towards lap 17, I was starting to think whether I should do another option stint, just to cover my back in case the primes had the same problem, and given that I had 23 seconds over Theo, and 25 over Shane, it seemed like the right thing to do.
…That was until the safety car was brought out on lap 18. I stuck the options on and watched as my lead was eaten up.
The battles after that were pretty fun. I wasn’t really involved per se, but I watched Shane and Theo battle it out, and tried to stay just far enough in front to ensure no-one could get the DRS or slip stream on me. Worked pretty well, and was able to cruise for the last couple of laps. Theo closed up pretty quickly but not enough to mount a challenge on the final lap.
Great race guys. My driver of the day goes to Shane I think. He put in a very good quali lap, and despite having a bad start to the race, still was right up there.
