Also, we’d need people to post screenshots of times for verification that they’re not cheating.

Absolutely. I’ve done it on other forums before, mostly with DIRT 3.

We could also make a championship of it – offer points for placing. I’ve heard that the actual Proving Grounds mode offers an aggregate time: all of your times are added together, so you can race your friends. If you’re slow on one circuit, you can make up the time on others. So we could have two championships – the individual and the aggregate series.

Sounds good to me. I’ll have a play around after the game’s released.

On another forum I’m on, we used to do it by submitting times to the person running the series. It was completely blind – the times weren’t revealed until the results were released. It made things a little harder because you didn’t know what time you had to beat, and it also kept people honest (we didn’t have to submit photographs).

    PS3 – Heart_Muscle – Australia

Placing a deposit on F1 2011 tonight at JB HiFi!!! Available this Thursday unless someone else releases it earlier – that’s what the guy at JB said. Tried to see if I could get it earlier (Wednesday night) but they’re not permitted to unless someone else breaks the rule. The game is in the store already.

Nope, EB Games and GAME are both releasing on Thursday. I can’t speak for the department stores – Target, Big W, K-Mart; whoever – but when it comes to gaming, I usually go to the gaming stores. The department stores don’t exactly offer the widest range of titles.

@PM is that Australia only? Or does it come out in the UK on thursday?

  • Profile picture of Prisoner Monkeys Prisoner Monkeys said 1 year, 8 months ago:

I have no idea since I don’t live in the UK.

The game is out right now in the United States of America.

It will be released in Australia on Thursday the 22nd.

It will be released in the UK and the rest of Europe on Friday the 23rd.

I seems unfair that the United States always get games first. I live in the same city that F1 2011 was developed, yet I got to wait two or three days after (depending on whether my pre-order is delivered early).

get your phone on standby wednesday afternoon, and be ready to dash to the store!

last year they were going to release on a thursday, but JB broke wednesday lunchtime, and EB followed.. got the copy at the store 3:30 wednesday afternoon!

Reserved a copy tonight – didn’t even have to place a deposit. The guy at JB even gave me a free copy of the September issue of F1 Racing – the one with Schumi on the front. It’s part of the promo that JB have at the moment. The game is $89 AUD. Here’s hoping they call me tomorrow to say the game is released. Almost hoping to see if someone does a prank call to a retailer tricking them to releasing it tomorrow.

Could I suggest that all lap times are done without any driving aids whatsoever (no ABS, no TCS, no steering help, no racing line, semi-auto transmission, no throttle or brake assists, no spin assist), but you can pick whatever car and use whatever view you like and make whatever car setup you want? Nothing like diving down the deep end with a new game!

And to start off, let’s begin with the Australian GP considering it’s also the first race of 2011. All lap times must be in by Monday Of each week, 10am GMT. After 10am GMT the next round will commence and you have until the next Monday to post a lap time.

    Thoughts?

To have driving aids completely off excludes a lot of players, as most players drive with a few aids, especially those without steering wheels.

We’re doing this on the ‘Proving Grounds’ mode, though. It limits the car, the track, the conditions and the set-up, so we’ll all be on a level playing field. I imagine the driving aids will be free for the player to choose. Thankfully, using driving aids will apparently give you a weight penalty, so you’ll only be able to do the fastest lap times with all aids off, which is good news for me! That Monday scheduling sounds alright though.
