Except that as a European sport, Europe arguably has a bigger sales volume than America. America has the potential for a larger sales volume, but there is a stronger Formula 1 following in Europe.

Codemasters like to release the games to coincide with a Grand Prix. Both F1 2010 and F1 2011 were released just before the Singapore Grand Prix. I suspect the game was released earlier in America to get the title onto shelves so that people will see it and maybe be interested in it. They won’t necessarily buy it then and there, but a few days later they’re idly channel surfing and they see a Grand Prix and something twigs in their memory. They watch the race, and they like it, so they do a little research and find the sport interesting, and end up going out and buying the game. Releasing the game a few days earlier gives a little bit extra time for that exposure.

How racy is the AI? Forexample if a corner is lost will they cut back to undercut the other driver on power as a normal driver would? Will they try audacious overtakes?

Will you be able to specify strategy in terms of your fuel load? e.g. take a heavy fuel load so you can run rich mix for 100% of the race (hypothetically)? Or take a light one so you need to save fuel at the end?

Can you now attack the kerbs in F1 2011? F1 2010 had these massive mourns which just spun you out every time you touch them at certain tracks.

Will you be able to see upgrades as they’re on the car? (e.g. can we see that the front wing is different etc) and can you switch teams midseason? Can you initiate the negotiations with teams rather than waiting for contracts?

Based on what I’m seeing on other forums, the fuel load is standard for all cars. I’m pretty sure the actual cars have a minimum amount of fuel that must be taken on at the start of the race, anyway.

The strategy comes down to managing your fuel mix. Apparently a lot of people online are complaining that they’re running out of fuel and cannot finish long races – but they run the highest settings all race long. I gather that you can adjust the fuel mix to conserve fuel, but you cannot alter the physical amount of fuel you take on.

Gaaahhh! Is there a setting where I can run flat out on it; but won’t run flat? :P

  • Profile picture of Prisoner Monkeys Prisoner Monkeys said 1 year, 8 months ago:

    Yeah, short races.

I’m only guessing on this one, but there’s probably a fuel setting that will allow you to be competitive over long distances without having to adjust fuel settings mid-race. it won’t give you the absolute best lap times, but nor will it leave you at the mercy of the Hispanias.

Just be careful, because I’m hearing that the richest fuel setting is also the default.

Yes that’s what I mean. A setting where you can run flat out from start to finish.

Is the Time Telemetry Data easier to use?

In the previous game I found that when I returned to the pits during Practice and Qualifying, viewing the lap times was very frustrating. I could not see my fastest sector times, just the last lap I did, neither could I see who and what was the fastest sector times for the other drivers.

Then again, maybe I’m just offering my ignorance, and it is as simple as clicking left on the d-pad or something.
Any one agree/disagree with me on this one?

There is no setting where you can run the richest fuel setting for an entire race without running out of fuel. That’s the entire point of a rich fuel setting – it gives you a faster lap time, but it also burns fuel faster. There simply isn’t enough space in the fuel tank to carry enough fuel to make it to the end of the race on the richest setting.

Another Feature that bugged me, was the obvious “Question” choices from the press
If you selected the middle option your opinion was neutral, the left option made other teams like you and your own team hate you, and the right option made your team like you and other teams less interested.

    Is this still the case?

I can’t say for sure, but Codemasters do keep talking about the way the effects of each answer are much more ovious this time around.

@PM – When I mean flat out, that means maximizing what you have; not necessarily making the car faster. So I’m asking, if I maximize my braking/traction/acceleration/cornering for the whole race, on what fuel mix can I keep on, if I want to stay on 1 fuel mix the whole race?

  • Profile picture of Prisoner Monkeys Prisoner Monkeys said 1 year, 8 months ago:

I have absolutely no idea. I don’t think anyone hs gotten that deep into the game just yet; the optimal fuel mix will differ slightly from circuit to circuit depending on the demands it places on the car; Monza is over 80% full throttle, but Singapore is only about 45% full throttle. Even though the overall distance is (roughly) the same, the differences in acceleration and braking between the two circuits will use different amounts of fuel. And that’s without factoring in the differences in engines. You’d have to do dozens of runs just to work out the optimal, so if you’re looking for one setting that you can apply in-game as soon as you get it so that you never have to worry about fuel consumption, then I have to say that I’m sorry – it doesn’t exist.

I was curious as to whether you are able to turn off penalties on the 2011 version. The 2010 version was far too sensitive in dishing out penalties, which, to be honest, ruined my enjoyment of the game.

Are the cars more twitchy in corners?
    Have the AI improved?
Can you use the ‘undercut’ in pitstops?

Looking at some of the video diaries on YouTube it seems there’s a lot more effect from understeer and oversteer – hence you could say the cars would be more twitchy. It seems you can also hold a power slide longer and hold your corrections longer too.
