Montreal race review:
I managed to qualify second, on the primes. I wasn’t sure if those behind me were too, but it was a nice surprise to see them on options. There was no chance of catching Moss, so options were pointless for me. The AI were the worst though, just blocking me on every lap.
I got a good start off the line, despite having primes on. But after the first few corners I was down to 3rd, which I didn’t mind as I was on the slower tyre. What I did mind was F199 sweeping across the racing line when we were side by side going around the left hand bend into the hairpin, which knocked me into the wall and destroyed my front wing. Cue Safety car.
This little fiasco put me down in second to last place, with a bunch of AI ahead of me. When the race was re-started they were just all over the place, and I wasn’t sure how to get through. I said that AI were a bad idea, and this just proved it, it completely ruined the fun of it all.
Then, thanks to the AI, once again, from being too slow, I mis-judged just how early they would brake, and once again I had to pit in for a new nose. Two stops in 6 laps.
I then had to run the primes I had on after that stop for most of the race, for any chance at a decent position. I was on course for a podium, and made two more stops for the option tyres, just because I had such a big lead. I also got some penalties, once again, courtesy of the damned AI, who just wouldn’t let me through.
I’d also like to point out that can people not start the race until everyone had declared that they are ready? It’s not a nice feeling trying to determine your strategy in 30 seconds, not giving me enough time to check whether or not the game has reverted my setup back to the default, which it had done.
So overall, thanks for putting the AI on, thanks for knocking my front wing off, thanks for ruining my race through not having the optimum setup, and thanks for not letting me choose a decent strategy. It’s just lucky that this wasn’t a Championship race.
Oh, and at the end the game declared that I came 9th, which I didn’t, I came 2nd. I was definitely not being 7 AI cars, all of whom I had lapped numerous times. Although, as there are no points, feel free to declare yourself 2nd Bradley, as that’s where you should have come. It’s just a shame that we were robbed of what I would imagine could have been a nice battle.
