I had a really good race here, ultimately having my best race finish since I joined last season – and no penalties this time!
Qualified 9th on the Inters, and when I saw the times, I was a touch disappointed as 6th was possible.
I took the start cautiously, as most times I’ve ended up being spun at the start and losing places. I initially lost a couple of places, but got back up to 10th through the left hand part of the corkscrew turn 1 and 2.
Then benefited from the inevitable spinners to get up to 8th into turn 4. The double left turns 9/10 (?) got messy, I got hit by the over agressive El whatshischops in the Torro Ross, propelling me into the back of @Mcwoblin but ultimately passing him because of this.
Was then on the pace to be in amongst the long train from 4th to 8th. I had gone on a counter strategy, starting on the primes, and running to the end of lap 10. By the end of that stint I was 4th having been taken by @Mcwoblin after a nice, clean battle on track…
I came out in 10th, and had great pace on the options, getting down into the 1:30s. During this stint my only mishap came as I caught y2j (@Mr Grieves) in the Mercedes. He broke WAY earlier than me, and I didn’t outbreak myself and unfortunately just misjudged closing speeds and hit into the back of him.
I apologised immediately, and allowed the place back, before then retaking into Turn 1 – I must have had much better tyres because he was really slow.
I then caught @MadDogMalloy who had experienced some problems and had a couple of good scraps with him, no contact required, before he pitted for his last set of tyres.
I stayed out for another lap and then came in at the end of Lap 17 for another set of Soft tyres. Came out in 9th this time, and ultimately managed to get 8th place, not really sure how. After the shake up of penalties, @Daniel Owen (aka Infernikus) had 40 seconds of penalties, so I got promoted to 7th place!
Delighted, as that’s my best ever finish, and I had decent pace, without being lapped in the race. For a circuit that I don’t claim to be good on, this is a really good result for me, and makes up for the disaster down under last week! :-)
Roll on Turkey next week (is it definitely next week?). I need to practice that one big time, as I haven’t raced there for ages!
With regards to @eltimuel he was over aggressive, and not sure if he had connection issues, but it sounds like he hit pretty much everyone at some point this race.
There are always occasional bumps, as mentioned above, I (accidentally) ploughed into the back of someone today, but if it’s consistent, then action needs to be taken. @eltimuel – did you have any problems / connection issues causing some of the erratic driving?
I look forward to seeing some videos of the action….
