Ps. Last weeks table updates contained an error in the points calculation, these should be correct now, please check your own points count (including the worst 2 race drop) and let me know if you find any errors. Sorry about that, see you all tonight.

    Hi all,

is there a free seat for todays race, I’d like to try my luck^^?

  • Profile picture of mrgrieves mrgrieves said 8 months, 2 weeks ago:

There’s been 5-6 seats spare in the last few races so should be no problem with you racing tonight, Except you taking points away from my push for 2nd place haha

No, don’t worry, I don’t expect to much today.

  • Profile picture of ms20 ms20 said 8 months, 2 weeks ago:

Wasn’t expecting 2nd after my start. Braked too early in the first corner and then spun when someone caught me as I turned and ended up 2nd from last about 4s behind the next guy. Stopped on old options on lap 9 then went to the end of the race on the primes and just about managed to stay in the 1.24s for about 15 laps in a row.

I got caught up in the first corner incident as well, although I started 9th. :D Someone hit the rear and I spun.
Anyhow, first corner incidents even happen in professional racing.

My qualifying went well, well until I cut the corner up to sector 2 I was only 0.4 Sec down on Lemons time. In the end I had to start on my prime tyre which had previously done 4 laps.

The race, great overall, I had the pace of the guys in front of me but I was too far behind, adding to that a great battle with Markstrub20 5 or 6 laps we were battling for position.
I think I set a new record, I cut the chicanes around 8 times until I was finally DSQ. :D

My practice – F1 2012 – wasn’t very sufficient and helpful at all.

Firstly apologies over the first corner incident, I think I may have caused it, I got my braking point WAY to late and while trying to avoid the cars in front I think I might have knocked some people about behind me, mainly @maddogmolloy.

Qualifying went terribly, on my first attempt I had @agentmulder trying to force his way past which completely spoilt the run. Even after that I wasn’t able to make any good times and ended up in the middle of the pack.

After the first corner incident I think I was in 4th with @maddogmolloy right behind, as well as @agentmulder, we had a good fight but I didn’t want to battle for too long as I was planning a 1 stopper, after a few laps maddog past me and not long after the snake caught me too, by the time he was on my rear end I decided I’d already taken too much out of my tyres and opted for a 2 stopper, allowing me to fight for the position.

By the time I came into the pits I was in 5th or 6th and came out right next to @maddogmolloy, the pit lane throws you out right into the apex and I assume maddog didn’t see me, we bumped rather badly but neither of us spun, as I’d already cause a first corner incident, I decided not to fight and let him past. A few laps later there was a few cars together, I think it was the two Saubers, myself, snake and maddog, going into the first hairpin of the lap, the third corner I think, I was side by side with @strunk27 with @infernojim just ahead, I’m not sure what happened with inferno but he spun in front of me, I swerved on to the grass to try to avoid him but still ended up going into the side of him, at this point I got a 10 second penalty, it was either for causing a collision or an illegal over take, as I didn’t actually do either of these things I’d like to appeal against the penalty. I’ve no footage myself, but if anyone in the group has a video of it, I’d appreciate it as the penalty ended up putting me from 2nd down to 5th

Was good to see @Powderfinger back in the race, as well as the continued good qualifying of both Saubers!

@lemon What happened to you at the Spa sprint race? I was following right behind into Pouhon and you flew up into the air.

  • Profile picture of mrgrieves mrgrieves said 8 months, 2 weeks ago:

Well isnt this just set up perfectly for next week guys!

Qualifying was the usually disaster felt sick to see myself 3 seconds off front row and 4 seconds off @Lemon. and again started at the back.

Race Was thinking Gungo ho into turn 1 then defend my position against the faster drivers aka everyone! However my gungho was very tame as i crawled into run the 1st turn hugged the kerb and on the exit someone came from deep and knocked me sideways cant see on the short recording but think it was @Snake or a sauber or someone in a white automobile. This left me and @Powderfinger battling till he got past. Forced a 1 stop as i felt very comfortable with the tyres on red. Second stint was even more enjoyable as it was a battle with @Maddogmolloy right through to the last lap when he ran short of fuel. to finish i think 6th, 0.3 sec of @LtAlferd with a penalty which may be removed.

@mrgrieves and @strunk27, I got my maths wrong earlier. @mrgrieves will be on 101 and me, and strunk will be on 98.

Anyway, enough about the thrilling battle for 2nd in the WDC. I had a great race, until the last lap, when I had a controller / user malfunction which lost me a guaranteed 2nd place, and but for @ljkobrien‘s penalty also 3rd.

I nailed my first qualifying lap with a low 1:21s lap, which was good enough for 2nd behind the mighty @lemon. Better still, I had only done a very leisurely outlap, a superhot lap, and a snail pace in lap – meaning the tyres still had 90% in them for the start of the race.

I had done a few simulation races and knew that I wanted to 1 stop. My first stint was pretty much perfect, I stayed out until lap 8 and pitted from the lead at that stage.

The defining part of the race was the mighty battle that proceeded directly after my pitstops. I came out behind @maddogmolloy (yet to stop?) and just ahead of @strunk27 and @ljkobrien, who I had lead by a few seconds before the stops, but had undercut me.

I had cold tyres and was slow into the hairpin before the main straight, but was hit (as far as my video / screen is concerned) off the track by @ljkobrien. I will post the video that clearly shows this (and apologies in advance for the use of the C word at that moment :-))

I obviously won’t be a steward judging @jlkobrien’s appeal, but would be strongly against an overturn. It is unfortunate if it was a lag issue, but as far as I’m concerned I only span and lost several seconds because I was hit…. I don’t really mind, as it shouldn’t have made a different to the result ultimately (more on that in a minute!)…. I’ll leave it up to the stewards to decide I guess.

Anyway, after me and @ljkobrien rejoined the track, he re-overtook me down the straight, again slightly roughly, which could again be a lag issue because it’s not like Alfred to be that rough.

What ensued next is an awesome battle wheel to wheel between myself, @strunk27 and @ljkobrien. I eventually passed @ljkobrien with one of my favourite moves of the season, before taking my team mate at the first corner of the next lap.

@mrgrieves was ahead of me, and we had a brief fight, but were out of synch and he pitted before I got passed him (his straightline speed was mighty, so I was struggling!

Eventually reinstated to my rightly 2nd place, I set about getting my rhythm back and lasting to the end. Around 3 laps to go I was around 5 seconds clear of @ms20, and feeling comfortable. The tyres were getting tricky, but I still had decent pace.

At the start of the final lap the lead was around 2.8 seconds, and I was still feeling okay, and then after the hairpin before the long straight disaster struck. I wasn’t at full throttle and thought it might have been a fuel issue, but it wasn’t, it was me not having my foot fully nailed on the pedal, I thought it was fully down, but I had got something in the way that made it feel solid even though there was more give..

So I was going 160 down a 200+mph straight. Funnily enough @ljkobrien got past me at this point, and because my tyres were badly worn @ms20 also caught and passed me.

Really peed off, as I had done everything perfectly, and there was no way I was getting caught without the stupid acceleration problem occurring.

Still, 3rd place (appeal pending) is certainly a decent return, and as I alluded to above, it makes for a very exciting 2nd place in the championship battle finale.

I will try to upload the videos tomorrow for the stewards (whoever they may be). From what Alfred is saying above, I’m pretty sure that lag is at play here, but anyway….

  • Profile picture of Matt Matt said 8 months, 2 weeks ago:

I thought the whole appeal system was removed post-China. That would have been nice to know…

  • Profile picture of Matt Matt said 8 months, 2 weeks ago:

And Alfred, that penalty is from when you hit my car into a 180.

  • Profile picture of MadDogMolloy MadDogMolloy said 8 months, 2 weeks ago:

@agentmulder the appeal system wasn’t removed. The only thing that really changed was the addition of a stewards panel to investigate incidents even if no appeals were made. Look back and you’ll see Me and Y2J successful appealed against a penalty at Hungary.

    @infernojim get that video up!

@ljkobrien I’ll round the boys up. Will let you know our decision ASAP.

  • Profile picture of Lt Alred Lt Alred said 8 months, 2 weeks ago:

If I did hit you off @infernojim, then I won’t appeal the decision as in that case it would have been my fault, I said to @maddogmolloy last week that I was using an unreliable internet connection so I suppose it may explain the penalty some what. Would still like to have a look at the video though

@agentmulder I was up ahead of you going into the hairpin, I don’t see how I could have put you into a spin

Hey, I haven’t been posting race reviews up recently, and to be honest my race wasn’t even worth a review, I was just so slow!! India is a track I haven’t really got the hang of yet, I was by far the slowest car on the track for the race, and only got 8th because of OKs DSQ … Still pleased that Kyle didn’t make too much progress :) 4 points between us for 6th place!

4-way battle for 2nd too !! Brazil is going to be Intense!!!
