Well, did alright in qualifying, started in P2.
My setup however didn’t suit the conditions in the race, to my amusement, I received a penalty at turn 9 as three cars forced me off the track. :D
Later on shortly before my pit-stop markstrub tried to overtake me at an inconvenient time as I slid into turn 13 which caused him to spin.
Not much I could do about that one.

Other than that, I had a 3 lap battle with Jonny, seemed like he was a little to cautious in his attempt to overtake me^^.

Some guys kept hitting the pilon at turn 11, which caused me to spin twice, especially as I had a critical 10 Sec. gap to strunk on the last lap.
Oh well, P5 in the end, which is ok, considering the penalty and setup issue.

That was a great show of bloody mindedness on my part.

Saw it was going to be wet and quickly googled a wet set up and stuck it on. Didn’t get a perfect lap, and the car was certainly not optimal for the dry. Got 11th on the grid, think if I’d maxed out my performance I could’ve got p9. Pace was poor, but I’d expected that.

First corner was good. Caution around the outisde and I was up to 7th / alongside 6th. Unfortunately, I’m not using racing line this year (trying to make it more of a challenge) and I missed my braking point by a mile! Sorry if I caused one of the Force India’s to crash as well.

After that I just had a bloody nightmare. Spinning around all the time, missing braking points, chewing up sand. Even when I did get a “clean” lap, my quickest was a 1:44s, which was a disaster.

But through sheer bloody mindedness I managed to get 10th place as others had issues / power cuts / rage quit! 1 point more than I got at Oz last year, but I’ve got a lot of work to do!

Nailed my first quali lap and started in 4th.
Started off well and was in 1st for a lap. Lemon overtook me when I went into the gravel when I broke too late.
For the rest of the race I had problems with downshifts in the corners because of the different speeds I was at due to the wet and kept sliding around and lost chunks of time all around. My favourite moment of the race was accidentally overtaking Jonny705 in a big slide.
Good result which I wasn’t expecting since I’m usually crap in the rain but acceleration wasn’t a problem anywhere like in 2010 or 2011 even with medium traction control.

Qualifying was a disaster for me, I didn’t get any clean laps in, although my last one would have been good enough for a top 5 I think if I hadn’t have been blocked by a Williams going on tot he pit straight, judging by his speed however, I think he may have finished and gone to AI control.

The race was one of what ifs though, after a decent start, gaining a couple of positions on my 9th place qualifying position I was just behind @infernojim going into turn 3, didn’t concentrate on my brake point and followed him straight intot he gravel trap putting me back to around 10th :P the next few laps I kept it on track and managed to get back up to 4th and had a terrific fight with my teammate for a few laps. I pitted on lap 14 after having one ro two spins which dropped me back to 5th and unfortunately spun it again at the pit entrance, while it didn’t drop me any more positions I know had @skrunk27 right on my tail.

The first few laps on the new tyres were brilliant and I was able to pull away from strunk’s Ferrari and slowly catch @jonny705 who was fighting with my teammate over 3rd. Around lap 20 my tyres just felt completely different however, I was struggling to keep the car under control while everyone around me was beginning to put in fastest laps, I checked the wear but that seemed to be fine so I just tried to get on with it. Strunk soon caught me and whizzed past when I spun on the same corner for two laps on the bounce, dropping me down to 6th, I had a comfortable 30 second lead over @McWoblin so put the car into lean fuel mode and avoided any risks.

If I hadn’t made as many driver errors (first lap off, pit lane mess up and late race tyre issues) I feel I could have been fighting for a podium spot, especially as I quite enjoyed the conditions and had what I felt was a good setup. However, as I had thought I’d be fighting at the back of the grid before the race I can’t say I’m disappointed.

    DOTD: @jonny705

I was tempted to go with @infernojim just for having the patience and endurance to carry on with what looked like a horrible race, but watching jonny hunt me down at the start of the race and then tear away after the front runners in such slippery conditions was both terrifying and beautiful :P

Eventful race to say the least lol.

Got a great start for once. Moved up to second, enjoying a decent opening lap for once and looked to surge away with @lemon – but I had obviously jinxed it. Both Herbie and I messed up going into turn three, taking on some gravel before rejoining the circuit. Lemon got away unscathed, I got the slightest of taps from someone and was spun.

I never realised that I was ghosted for some time, so I was sat pointlessly waiting for people to pass. As a result, I think I was 11th or something and with work to do.

Had a terrifying battle with @MadDogMolloy and a Williams early on before eventually getting past, and then just casually worked my way back up to fourth. Got the jump on @PowderFinger (I think) in the pits and then eventually @Ms20 for second. In true Vettel style, Herbie was a good 40 seconds clear and was never going to be caught. Eighteen points for me.

I believe Codies are releasing the patch for the 360 this week, if it isn’t out already today that is, meaning the likelihood of rain will be significantly reduced and we might get a dry race next week.

My DOTD is also @jonny705 BTW. An exceptional first race, and he looks to have the pace to worry the 13 in a row 2 time World Champion, @lemon.

Interesting season opener, due to wet weather I still don’t think we know where everyone will be. Qualifying went well, set a decent time on primes initially, was sitting P5. Returned to the garage and saw 100% rain forecasted so I returned to the track on options and set a more solid time to remain P5. Was pleased with the result.

My thoughts for the race were to have a clean start and remain in my starting position by the end of the lap. That instantly went out the window as I was backwards in turn 1. (Sorry @MadDogMolloy). Was in P14 and had lots of ground to make up. As I progressed through lap one I don’t believe there was a single gravel trap without a car in it. I was back up to P11 by lap 2. I struggled through the first stint and had good battles with lots of different people. My favorite was with @MadDogMolloy and @McWobblin. I got by both of the Lotuses and opened up a gap before pitting on lap 15.

I left the pits P6 behind @ljkobrien by around 5 seconds. For the next 4 laps or so Alfred was 0.5 seconds faster. Then for a couple laps we were even on lap times. The next 4 laps or so I was 0.5 seconds faster so I knew he was likely struggling with tires. Around lap 24 I believe, I passed Alfred after he spun in sector 3. I maintained the gap for the final laps and finished in my starting position of P5. After being dead last at the I was very happy with that finishing position.

Glad to be back in the swing of things. My Driver of the day is @ms20. He was fast in qualification and consistent in the race. I think he’ll be one to watch this season. He’s been quick in all of the sprint championships and seems to have a good grasp on 2012! Also good to have @PowderFinger back with us as he’s a competitive and clean driver. Here’s hoping to a dry Malaysia!

Well that was a mad race!

As soon as I saw that the race would be wet, I made some set up changes which would compromise my qualifying pace but would (hopefully) help me in the race. I eventually qualified 7th with a fast lap at the end of qualifying, although I was held up by a slow car in the fast turns 11/12 and could have gone even faster.

The start and first two laps were just utter chaos. I managed to gain 1 or 2 places with one of my usual demon starts. Going into turn 1 with all the spray, it was impossible to see what really happened, but noticed a few cars ahead had gone off the track to the left. All of a sudden, as I put my foot down for turn 2, @strunk27 ‘s Ferrari was travelling across the track sideways hitting my front left and sending me in the wall with him. I was 12th when I got back on track but as I went around the first lap, every single gravel trap had multiple cars in it, especially through 9 and 10 where I managed to avoid a red bull I think facing the wrong way.

Was up to around 4th by the end of the lap and had a great fight with a few drivers. Looking at the map in the corner from then until around lap 10, the pack looked tightly packed together. I often went wide coming out of some of the corners due to the conditions. Lost a few places because of it but then I would gain a place when drivers ahead if me did the same.

I had trouble getting past @kvothe . I was stuck behind him for a few laps and was clearly the faster car. This might have been lag, but when I got alongside him he would aggressively cut me off. I dropped behind @powderfinger (kevin) because if it and he did the same to him after going slightly wide after turn 3. Kevin got caught out and I couldn’t slow down in time, so hit the side of Kevin going into turn 4. I think I came worse off as I spun, not sure if it ruined Kevin’s race mind. @kvothe nearly took out @lemon in a almost identical incident later in the race when he was lapping us.

Towards the end of the first stint, I was suffering with tyre wear. Made a few mistakes, resulting in spins. Me and @mcwoblin collided as we went into turn 1. That was my fault mate – I didn’t leave is enough room. That’s the first time we have ever collided I think. I was stuck in the wall while he managed to get ahead. I was really struggling with the tyres now and was going to pit but @mcwoblin got there first. I didn’t want to lose time queuing up so did another lap. Was so slow but managed to get back to the pits and pull on a fresh set of inters.

The rest of the race was a shambles to be honest. I pushed hard to make up ground but made far too many mistakes. Kept sliding into corners which didn’t help. Wasn’t sure if this was due to my set up as fuel burnt off or it was the tyres. My car was getting worse and I was all over the place. Lost positions to @dazzaarcher and @cscottyf195 but managed to get them back after Odin disconnected for some reason and @dazzaarcher pitted with 3 laps to go. Finished in 8th.

Disappointed it was wet as I would have been competing higher up if it was dry. My dry set up for this track was perfectly balanced. Perhaps I shouldn’t of changed it in anticipation for a wet race.

DOTD – @jonny705 2nd after the start he had was awesome!

Does anyone know if the cars are meant to be equal in time trial? I thought they were but I did a near perfect lap in the Mercedes then went 8 tenths faster in a very sloppy lap with the Red Bull.

@ms20 Cars were never equal in time trial, Mclaren is almost always the fastest…
