Well there’s me waffling on about doing four laps of practice, and Kevin came second without any testing whatsoever. Shuts me up.
Considering my lack of practice however, and my strong hatred for this circuit, today’s race was a good and fun one. I think Strongo got a little confused as to which side I was passing him in quali, and he tapped my side. I believe he slid off, but the game punished me rather than understanding that it was a misunderstanding.. yeah.
So a 10-place grid penalty. I started on primes and whilst it was to my benefit once the final stint eventually came along, until then I was nursing tyres that should have been ditched some time earlier. Prime to option just doesn’t work, and I probably won’t be trying it again.
Got a nightmare start. Not that I was involved in the mess in front of me or anything. No, I just had a monstrous lag back before I’d even crossed the start line. Today wasn’t my day. I think I made five DRS overtakes in the first eight laps, before everyone pitted and I got some space. Unfortunately those around me got space as well and went quicker.
I emerged down in seventh after pitting, and soon passed MadDog and some others, but Alfred showed nerves of steel to hold third until a tense final lap. Admittedly had I not ran wide in the dirty air with three laps to go the end result would probably have been different, but hey staying on the circuit is part of the game.
I hassled Alfred into hopefully making a mistake, and it came at the penultimate corner. Either he had a wobbly moment, or my exit was so immaculate that I had a great run on him onto the main straight, but thanks to FIA’s idea of having two start lines, I ran out of straight. You all missed out on some manic shouting from me in the closing stages. But at least Herbie got an earful.
Germany next then. Have to admit I’m a maybe again. Exam the following day, but I’ll try to crack on with revision early so I can race. I should point out as well that the forced dry rule is working a treat. Four weeks in and I’m craving a wet race, not dreading its inevitable arrival in the forthcoming Grand Prix. Knowing this game we’ll probably get one.
Standings are done, but cba to upload so they will be there tomorrow. I know dropped rounds are yet to come into effect, but it’s a familiar-looking story at the top. Even with two dropped scores Herbie would be winning the championship.
