Williams announce signing of veteran @infernojim to partner @powderfinger for the remainder of Season 4
In a sensational development, F1F Xbox 360 championship veteran @infernojim will switch teams mid-season moving from Sauber to Williams. The switch comes about at a time of real turmoil for the Swiss based outfit, who have failed to field two drivers at any races this season, leading to concerns about their finances and commitment to the championship.
Recently their American team leader @strunk27 announced that he was to have a hiatus from the sport, leaving his seat vacant, and this is seen as being the final straw leading to @infernojim‘s decision to leave the team.
@infernojim joined Sauber mid-way through Season 1 as a rookie, and struggled initially to get onto the pace of the lead runners, but did at least make the points within his first few races. He grew increasingly strong in Season 2 with a run of podium positions, most impressively at Canada where tyre management allowed him to stop once less than the rest of the grid to come through from the back of the field to the podium, and at Monaco where he achieved a career best 2nd place finish. @infernojim remained in the 4 way battle for 2nd in the championship until the very last round of that season where he had an unfortunate 10th place in Brazil leading him to come 5th, whilst his team-mate @strunk27 benefited to take 4th.
This strong performance led to an ill-fated move to Ferrari for season 3, where @infernojim struggled to handle the pressure of the Tifosi, with a sole 5th place finish the highlight of an otherwise disappointing season. @infernojim had this to say of his period at the pracing horse: “I arrived with high hopes at Ferrari, but the car had such a dramatically different feel to the Sauber that I just couldn’t get on top of it, and if you don’t deliver quickly the pressure to succeed at Ferrari can just become too much”…
This year has seen @infernojim return to Sauber and without shining too brightly, he has featured more prominently in all races this season, even setting a fastest lap on his way to 6th at Abu Dhabi. Recently he’s been vocal in the press about how lonely he’s been at Sauber this season, and has made his availability clear to other team bosses in the paddock.
Williams have been the first to bite, and @infernojim is excited at the prospect to partner one of the stars of the Championship @powderfinger for the remainder of the season. “I’m really excited to be racing alongside @powderfinger, and support his title push as well as bring Williams into the battle with the likes of Lotus, Force India and Ferrari in the constructors. I’d also like to thank Peter (Sauber) for all his support over the years, it was a tough decision to leave a team at which I hold such fond memories.”
Only time will tell what this change means for the journeyman @infernojim‘s future, and ultimately Sauber’s as well.
