Great race Monday guys! Although there were a few incidents, the mid pack were really closely matched. Happy to finally get my 1st podium of the season (3rd of career after Silverstone S1 and Hungary S3). @ms20 how did you get the penalty by the way?
I agree with Jonny – I feel that the season has gone on for too long and although this was ok for Season 3, I feel the format is a little tired. It was all good when we first had F1 2012 but the races can become a bit of a chore. The midfield battle was so close around the 13-14 round mark but has tailed off since.. Imagine if we had the season finale around then! (Reminds me of the end of season 2).
Also, Those further down in the championship might get a bit fed up if they start the season slowly. potential new drivers may look at this forum and decide they’ll give it a miss as its too late in the championship to enter.
Also i think that we have too many dropped races. I looked at the figures and on average we miss around 2-3 races. Any bad performances/disconnections are wiped out by the remaining dropped scores – therefore mistakes aren’t really punished. This wasn’t the purpose of the rule in the first place (which was to allow you to not fall behind if you missed the odd race). The whole purpose of a longer championship was to test a drivers skills at all tracks (even the ones they aren’t so good at). However having 5 dropped races defeats the whole purpose of a longer season.
The idea I have come up with today is this: a 13 race season (one race longer than season 2) with one or two dropped races. This would be a good compromise. I’ve looked at the calendar and found that we can fit in 3 seasons from October 2013- September 2014 (compared to 2 seasons over the course of the last year).
There would be a selection of races that would be in all three seasons. We could perhaps vote for how many and which circuits these may be. For example I’ve chosen the ones I think might be popular below:
That’s eight races. Now the remaining five slots on the calendar would be filled by the rest. I’ve clustered similar tracks together in groups of three below:
Malaysia/China/Korea (Similar Asian tracks)
Bahrain/Singapore/Abu Dhabi (middle east/night races)
Germany/Hungary/Brands Hatch (Northern Euro races)
Barcelona/Jerez/Estoril (Latin races)
USA/India/San Marino (the rest)
A different race from each cluster would be picked for each of the three seasons. This way we include every circuit at some point.
Let me know what you guys think.
I know quite a few of you, have been put-off by the 100% races recently. I agree that it’s a long time and does require more preparation in advance. Perhaps we should resort back to all races being 50% race distance and have a couple of one-off 100% races separate from the main championship. Again, let me know what you think!
