First of all – my race.
I started 6th on the grid and got off the line well. Had to back off as one force India went into the side of me while the other breaked quite late.
At turn 2 I had a car either side of me. @mrgrieves really didn’t mean to ram you on the kerb, if I hadn’t turned there I would have collided with the car on my right. My mistake mate.
Then at turn 4, @ljkobrien and @ms20 had some sort of collision meaning @ms20 went off the track. Meanwhile, zsmokey went wide so taking my normal line I was down the inside warning zsmokey over team radio that i was there – he acknowledged. All of a sudden @zsmokey and me came together, spinning me into the gravel and when i rejoined i was 15th. Looking at the video I recorded, it seems that when @ms20 rejoined, him and @zsmokey collided and we all came together.
I fought back through the field to get up to 8th where me and @zsmokey had a good fight. I gave @ljkobrien the tiniest of taps on the rear when we were fighting so he went off. Finished in 6th after @mrgrieves made a mistake.
There were a lot of issues on the first lap. But in a way (like already mentioned above) this can’t be helped. There were more of us than usual, 5 new drivers in the grid and it was the first race! It’s also really hard to penalise anyone with so much going on. Also everyone is taking different lines on cold tyres with a vastly different feeling to the car compared to qualifying just a couple of minutes before. Everyone has different breaking points etc.
I think rather than raising these issues in here, people need to state they aren’t happy in the lobby. Things can get taken the wrong way on here. At least in the lobby there’s that two way exchange and things might get ironed out. If drivers aren’t happy they need to appeal after the race – the stewards panel can then look at any video evidence available.
Crashes on the first lap with so many drivers are going to happen. I also think lag plays a part – I saw this first hand in the sprints afterwards – @mrgrieves magically transported a few times as did @vitreouschain .
As this is the first race, we can’t really jump to any conclusions. I’ll keep an eye on things and will warn everyone to be careful before the next race. If it happens at India, I’ll call the stewards to look at the repeat offenders and handout penalties if needed but let’s see how things go first. Everyone needs to take responsibility and that includes me!
Also the more people who record the start, the more evidence we will have!
@infernikus maybe have a play with your connection and your router? Perhaps it can be fixed? Would hate to lose you again mate.
I’ll upload my video highlights over the next few days.
