Bought it on the steam sales, I haven’t played an F1 racing game since Formula 1 98, and I haven’t played on a gamepad before so it’s all new to me.
Found it way too easy with traction up full even with manual gears, qualified in 2nd at Malaysia with the HRT in my second race so I put in on medium traction. The change was light and day. Also the car setup has a bigger impact than I thought, figuring out the right settings for the HRT takes some time but it has too big an impact to ignore. Challenging but rewarding when you get it right, but setting the spring settings up seems like a cheap way to control the slippery back end accelerating out of slow corners.
Went with HRT so I wouldn’t have to worry about KERS for a while. I have it on intermediate difficulty, manual gears, medium traction with ABS on. Managed in Australia, qualified 19th and finished 18th after Barrichello crashed out. In Malaysia I finished 13th holding off a few of the bigger teams. In China I qualified 15th and finished 14th after spinning when in 9th. In Turkey I made it to 10th, so I think it’s too easy again, despite Turn 8 difficulties.
So given it’s too easy but not that easy given my inexperience, should I set the difficulty up, turn ABS off or, god forbid, turn traction right off?
It is realistic though, I saw Barrichello and Schumacher smack into each other on the main straight at a practice race at Hungary. Also, I had it rev too high, and the engine sounded stuffed through the rest of the practice session. I was worried to test it too much, given I was in China with that ridiculously long straight. The engine was fine by qualifying though.
