Like George, I’ve had it at the default and have been doing fine. But then I tend to simply adapt to what’s presented when it comes to driving in this game. I do agree with George though: early braking is the key in this car. Slow-in-fast-out.

Speaking of the skippy, George did you get to run the Premiere league this week at Infineon? Wasn’t sure if you had that track.

I’ve got the track, didn’t run it this week though. I’ve decided against the premiere league as it doesn’t run on the normal schedule, dont really have time to learn two tracks per week.

Also: I suck ass at Suzuka

Yeah, I’m running way more than I expected to this season (more series than I’ve ever done in a single season, truth be told).

I’ve only run Suzuka in the Skips once and that was last season. It’s tricky, but I didn’t mind it too much. My bigger problem was people trying to pass on corners that weren’t meant for passing (some dummy tried to get inside me at Degner 1). With Infineon being new for me I spent all the first half of this week banging away laps there (and it payed off with a 5th place). I’m gonna put some laps in at Suzuka tonight and might race either tomorrow (Saturday morning) or sometime Sunday. Tomorrow evening is my next CESCS race, so that’s my main focus tomorrow. I’m actually really hopeful about it because we’re running Mid-Ohio which is a track I feel very comfortable with.

Well week 13 is coming to an end! Have you driven the Caddy yet @joey-poey ? I like it but it’s a bit of a handful. I’ll be sticking to the skips again next season, apparently they’ve updated the tyre model again and it’s more understeery but generally more consistent and realistic.

My British Skippy Championship ended badly, I got caught up in an accident on lap 28/30 at Brands Indy and lost 2nd place in the championship to the guy that was following me in the race, I scored more points overall but he beat me after dropped rounds: http://ukclub.deepblueltd.net/uk-club-series/skip-barber-schedule/skip-barber-standings

Ah man, that’s a bummer of a way to finish that D:. And yes, I have tried the caddy! If you haven’t yet, definitely try setups besides the baseline. For once I found their baseline setup to be terrible and difficult to drive. It can still be a bit tricky with a more comfortable setup, but I really enjoy the long races and the high attrition rate (I know, I’m predictable, aren’t I?). I’m hoping if the rookie series is fixed setup like I’ve been hearing, that it’s not the current baseline setup. If it’s something more stable, I’d be more likely to hop in those races here and there for fun. But like you, I’m sticking with the skips.

Speaking of which, have you seen if they released the Season 2 schedules yet? I can never remember when/where they put those things and I wanna know if they’re gonna make us get Motegi :P

They’re running a double-season rotation, so S1 and S2 are the same tracks (albeit with some different layouts), then we get a new batch for S3/4, no doubt Motegi will be in there.

    *EDIT*
Doh, just checked the skippy forum and someone posted this: http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/1945090.page#4404455

Finally won my first race. Mazda MX-5 Cup race at Lime Rock Park. Started 3rd and moved up to 2nd when the leader went wide at the last corner, speared across the track, and shot neatly into the pitlane. Followed the new leader for the next 16 laps, staying with about a second of him. Passed a backmarker with 6 or so laps to go, and then on lap 17 he lost it in the turns 3/4 left/right. He almost collected me as he rejoined on the apex of 4, and I somehow managed to say cool and calm for the remaining 3 laps of the rac to bring home victory by 1.5 seconds.

    Woo! http://ajokay.co.uk/images/first_iracing_win.png

Dude, congrats! :D I remember that feeling of getting your first and it’s awesome isn’t it? Just keep hold of that confidence to know you DO have what it takes to win races now :). It’ll help in those pressure situations down the line.

I, alas, have had a mix of fortune and fail lately. My most recent Skip Premiere race at Watkins Glen went great and I snagged my third podium out of the first 5 races in the season (I even beat Flavien Vidal for it!). Then, I forgot to re-qualify for the regular skip series and hopped into a race only to find myself starting 7th of 14 when I probably could have started 4th. I buckled down to fight my way up and had some good battles when the tussle for 4th ended in just the lightest of touches that sent me into the wall in the last corner. Watching the replay, I decided it’s simply a racing incident, so there were no hard feelings, but 4th versus my 8th place finish left me disappointed.

Then to top it off, my CESCS race was also having similar intense battles that were very fair and fun when I pushed too hard to catch 5th and put my wheels on the grass in the penultimate corner. An attempt at a save meant the car flicked too hard and I went broadside into the tires with all of 10 minutes left in the race. What was going to be a 6th place finish at the least turned into a 12th. Again, disappointed in myself. So a real mixed bag for me at the start of this season.

EDIT: Redemption! Snuck in one more regular Skip series race this evening and snagged a 4th place finish in the top split of 3. Wasn’t flawless, but I at least made it through the damn thing this time. Plus, at 2600+ SOF I got myself a cool 130 some odd points. Better than the 50 or so I got for 12th in the first race!

So since I had to get Indianapolis for the latest CESCS race and I already have the Dallara, I figured I might as well give a go at iRacing’s Indy 500. Drove my first laps of the oval in the Indy car…

HOLY #@%$ it is terrifying and it’s not even real! I cannot fathom what it must be like to come barreling out of the pits in the actual race on cold tires with cars all around you. It took me like 8 laps before I had the guts to keep my foot down for the whole way around. If you have the car and the track, give it a try. It will give you a whole new level of respect for these guys.

@joey-poey that sounds nicee. i remember the first time i drove (in real life) an oval.. its just soo damn fast the adrenalin pumps so hard. the engine revving so high the whole time its daunting… great respect for oval drivers since then..

back to iracing i managed to win my first skip barber race yesterday! this car is making me sweaat! its so easy to spin what setup changes do you do with the skip ??

  • Profile picture of Joey-Poey Joey-Poey said 10 months, 1 week ago:

None, actually. I run it on the baseline setup. I’ve just learned to keep a bit of gas in it on the corners to keep it from lift-oversteer.
