    Out in Q2
    11. Chan (Sauber)
    12. Nykänen (Williams)
    13. Graham (Red Bull)
    14. Widger (McLaren)
    15. Armos (Force India)
    16. Needham (Toro Rosso)
    17. d’Hazorme (Caterham)

In the wet conditions, the Caterham of d’Hazorme couldn’t quite work his magic, only managing 17th place. The team were a little disappointed after their practice results, though were optimistic about the race.
The biggest surprises came from Hollis Graham of Red Bull and McLaren’s Alfie Widger. Neither were able to make it into the final session of qualifying, which is only going to make it harder for a decent result, especially for Widger, of whom has retired from the last three races and is desperate for a good finish (EDIT: or at least a finish at all!)

Come on, good practice, need a win to stay in touch

Not sure about surprise. Unfortunately I haven’t been that quick at all. :’(

    Downton storms to Korean pole
Bradley Downton took his first pole position this afternoon, only a tenth ahead of the Ferrari of Mathershaw. Johnny Kingshark came close to the top spot early in the session, but a mistake on his final run halted his progress, and left him defenceless again the oncoming laps of the Ferrari and Lotus. Jamie Franklin complained of balance issues throughout qualifying, and could only manage 9th.
Mercedes were particularly happy with qualifying, hoping that they can finish in the points, to increase the gap to the ever-closing Caterham team.
William Ingram stated that he was disappointed with 6th place, but remains hopeful that he can have a better race, and wants to stay in front of Franklin and close in on Kingshark if he can.

    1. Downton (Lotus)
    2. Mathershaw (Ferrari)
    3. Kingshark (Red Bull)
    4. Varga (Sauber)
    5. Bomeny (Ferrari)
    6. Ingram (McLaren)
    7. Butler (Mercedes)
    8. Morley (Williams)
    9. Franklin (Lotus)
    10. Robson (Mercedes)

Oh yes, that is great :) Hopefully I can stay near the top rather than fall down the order like I have been.

Bradley on pole, as expected. 17th on the grid, I’ll try to do what Kimi did at Suzuka, 2005.

I’d take a finish over a pole any day.

    Race Update 1
    1. Downton (Lotus)
    2. Mathershaw (Ferrari)
    3. Kingshark (Red Bull)
    4. Bomeny (Ferrari)
    5. Varga (Sauber)
    6. Ingram (McLaren)
    7. Butler (Mercedes)
    8. Morley (Williams)
    9. Franklin (Lotus)
    10. Robson (Mercedes)
    11. Graham (Red Bull)
    12. Chan (Sauber)
    13. Widger (McLaren)
    14. Nykänen (Williams)
    15. d’Hazorme (Caterham)
    16. Needham (Toro Rosso)
    17. Cucamest (Toro Rosso)
    18. Haddleton (Force India)
    19. Sunderland (Caterham)
    20. Peacock (Marussia)
    21. Hofman (HRT)
    22. Kirkham (HRT)
    23. Frog (Marussia)
    Ret. Armos (Force India)

Barely any change for the first quarter of the race, though Alfie Widger’s McLaren hasn’t retired yet, so that is something at least. Armos, however, had traction problems towards the end of the lap, and spun into the wall, breaking his rear suspension, causing him to retire. Bradley Downton is looking dominant, though Red Bull and Ferrari have worries over Kingshark and Mathershaw’s slowing pace.

    I am disappointed :P

But it’s the right lotus on pole at least, hopefully can get a podium

15th isn’t exactly promising, but it’s a start. If you want to win the race from 17th, you got to be 15th at some point during the race, right? :P

    Race Update 2
    1. Downton (Lotus)
    2. Mathershaw (Ferrari)
    3. Kingshark (Red Bull)
    4. Bomeny (Ferrari)
    5. Varga (Sauber)
    6. Ingram (McLaren)
    7. Butler (Mercedes)
    8. Franklin (Lotus)
    9. Robson (Mercedes)
    10. Morley (Williams)
    11. Graham (Red Bull)
    12. Chan (Sauber)
    13. Widger (McLaren)
    14. Nykänen (Williams)
    15. d’Hazorme (Caterham)
    16. Needham (Toro Rosso)
    17. Haddleton (Force India)
    18. Cucamest (Toro Rosso)
    19. Sunderland (Caterham)
    20. Peacock (Marussia)
    21. Kirkham (HRT)
    22. Frog (Marussia)
    Ret. Hofman (HRT)

The HRT of Hofman retires to start us into our second update. The biggest change coming from Nic Morley’s beginning to struggle with the tyres, as he falls behind the Lotus of Franklin and then Tom Robson’s Mercedes. Jamie Franklin starts to close up on Shane Butler, looking for a way to pass, though his straight line speed isn’t quite as good as the Merc.
Mathershaw’s Ferrari looks to be struggling quite a lot right now. The team are concerned with a piece of tyre rubber which has become lodged in one of the front wing planes. On the other hand, Bomeny is looking pretty quick, as are both of the McLarens.
