Shock as Sunderland fastest again in FP2
Nicholas Sunderland continued his shocking dominance of the Yas Marina circuit in FP2, by going a tenth of a second quicker than the other Red Bull of Johnny Kingshark to go fastest once again for Caterham. Teammate d’Hazorme couldn’t get anywhere near his teammate in 13th place while Jamie Franklin somewhat recovered from his disastrous first session by going third fastest as this time it was his teammate who struggled, Downton only 18th fastest in the sister Lotus. As for the other Championship contenders, Graham was 6th, Ingram 9th, Mathershaw 10th and Bomeny 14th.

Didn’t Toyota Prii have brake issues a few years back?

  • Profile picture of Nicholas Sunderland Nicholas Sunderland said 4 months, 2 weeks ago:

@andae23 Lol, Prii. Gonna start using that plural now.

    Out in Q1
    18. Cucamest (Toro Rosso)
    19. Haddleton (Force India)
    20. Needham (Toro Rosso)
    21. Nykänen (Williams)
    22. Kirkham (HRT)
    23. Peacock (Marussia)
    24. Hofman (HRT)

Both HRT’s, as usual, fell in Q1, but Bull Frog put in a fantastic performance in his Marussia, beating both Toro Rosso’s, Nykänen’s Williams and Haddleton’s Force India to make Q2. Ingram was fastest in Q1 from Sunderland’s Caterham while his teammate only just broke into Q2, in 16th place.

    Out in Q2
    11. Robson (Mercedes)
    12. Downton (Lotus)
    13. Varga (Sauber)
    14. Butler (Mercedes)
    15. Morley (Williams)
    16. Frog (Marussia)
    17. d’Hazorme (Caterham)

The major shock of Q2 was Championship contender Downton falling out in 12th place. After the session Downton commented:
‘The car was just all over the place. I couldn’t heat the tyres, I had no grip, everything was just, wrong. It’s shocking. This is shocking. After being so strong in the last few races, this is so disappointing. I don’t know what to do.’
Caterham’s d’Hazorme was also lost for words as he was left in 17th place, behind Frog’s Marussia. His teammate Sunderland got comfortably through into Q3 in 6th quickest while Kingshark took the top spot from Championship leader Franklin and McLaren’s Alfie Widger.
