    Out in Q1
    18. Robson (Mercedes)
    19. Frog (Marussia)
    20. Nykänen (Williams)
    21. Morley (Williams)
    22. Hofman (HRT)
    23. Kirkham (HRT)
    24. Peacock (Marussia)

During the first session, we saw the shock departure of not only both of the Williams drivers, but also the Mercedes of Tom Robson. Robson said that he was disappointed with the Mercedes’ qualifying pace this year, as they’d designed the car to be quick on one lap pace.
Bradley Downton continued his run of success, topping Q1, with his team mate struggling to 7th. Bomeny, though the furthest away in the Championship, was third fastest, whilst Kingshark was in 8th and Ingram and Graham 11th and 12th. Talking to the team, they are worried that one of their drivers may fail to make it into Q3, which could result in them falling out of the title fight.

    Out in Q2
    11. Armos (Force India)
    12. Kingshark (Red Bull)
    13. Needham (Toro Rosso)
    14. Haddleton (Force India)
    15. Sunderland (Caterham)
    16. Ingram (McLaren)
    17. Cucamest (Toro Rosso)

Red Bull continued to struggle with one lap pace during Q2, with Kingshark failing to make it into the final session, and Graham only managing 9th. Ingram, however, was very disappointed with his performance, stating that the tyres just wouldn’t heat up. This left him in a lowly 16th place, with his title hopes looking bleak at best. He spoke out to say that he was hoping better for the race, and perhaps for some bad luck on his rivals.
Downton topped the second session as well, with his team mate in 5th, still not able to match him on a single lap.

    Qualifying Results
    1. Downton (Lotus)
    2. Mathershaw (Ferrari)
    3. Widger (McLaren)
    4. Varga (Sauber)
    5. Bomeny (Ferrari)
    6. Franklin (Lotus)
    7. Chan (Sauber)
    8. d’Hazorme (Caterham)
    9. Graham (Red Bull)
    10. Butler (Mercedes)

Bradley Downton took pole position ahead of the US Grand Prix, ahead of Mathershaw’s Ferrari, and the McLaren of Alfie Widger. Felipe Bomeny made a slight mistake on his final run, leaving him down in 5th, with Championship leader joining him on the third row in 6th.
Graham couldn’t quite extract as much from his car, and starts in 9th for tomorrow’s race, just behind the Caterham of d’Hazorme.
Alfie Widger made the statement that with his team mate so far down, he will do everything within his power to win the race tomorrow, and prevent any title contender from taking home maximum points. Mathershaw agreed to this in the press conference, as their respective teams do what they can to aid Bomeny and Ingram.

    Race Update 1
    1. Mathershaw (Ferrari)
    2. Widger (McLaren)
    3. Downton (Lotus)
    4. Varga (Sauber)
    5. Bomeny (Ferrari)
    6. Chan (Sauber)
    7. Graham (Red Bull)
    8. d’Hazorme (Caterham)
    9. Franklin (Lotus)
    10. Kingshark (Red Bull)
    11. Armos (Force India)
    12. Butler (Mercedes)
    13. Needham (Toro Rosso)
    14. Haddleton (Force India)
    15. Sunderland (Caterham)
    16. Cucamest (Toro Rosso)
    17. Morley (Williams)
    18. Frog (Marussia)
    19. Kirkham (HRT)
    20. Peacock (Marussia)
    Ret. Ingram (McLaren)
    Ret. Robson (Mercedes)
    Ret. Nykänen (Williams)
    Ret. Hofman (HRT)

Mathershaw and Widger both get off of the grid fantastically, pushing Downton down to third straight away. Franklin gets a bad start, immediately falling behind Chan, d’Hazorme and title rival, Hollis Graham, who made his way passed the Caterham.
Unfortunately for third placed man, William Ingram, he had a coming together with the Mercedes of Tom Robson, resulting in a double retirement for the pair…this is definitely a weekend to forget for the McLaren driver, and that could spell the end of his title hopes.

    Race Update 2
    1. Mathershaw (Ferrari)
    2. Widger (McLaren)
    3. Varga (Sauber)
    4. Bomeny (Ferrari)
    5. Chan (Sauber)
    6. Downton (Lotus)
    7. Graham (Red Bull)
    8. d’Hazorme (Caterham)
    9. Kingshark (Red Bull)
    10. Franklin (Lotus)
    11. Butler (Mercedes)
    12. Haddleton (Force India)
    13. Needham (Toro Rosso)
    14. Morley (Williams)
    15. Cucamest (Toro Rosso)
    16. Peacock (Marussia)
    17. Kirkham (HRT)
    Ret. Armos (Force India)
    Ret. Sunderland (Caterham)
    Ret. Frog (Marussia)

Downton falls further down the order, proving that one lap pace doesn’t necessarily guarantee an easy race, as Widger closes in on Mathershaw, now looking set to take the lead…
The title contenders are all very close now, Bomeny being the highest, in 4th, with Downton falling to 6th. Kingshark is able to get the jump on Championship leader, Jamie Franklin, though he is looking quicker now, and could be finding his way up the order soon…
Sunderland has a coming together with Armos! The Caterham’s suspension is damaged, and needs to retire. Armos trails back to the pits, the debris from the car ripping his tyre apart.

    Race Update 3
    1. Widger (McLaren)
    2. Varga (Sauber)
    3. Mathershaw (Ferrari)
    4. Bomeny (Ferrari)
    5. Chan (Sauber)
    6. Graham (Red Bull)
    7. Downton (Lotus)
    8. Franklin (Lotus)
    9. d’Hazorme (Caterham)
    10. Kingshark (Red Bull)
    11. Butler (Mercedes)
    12. Haddleton (Force India)
    13. Cucamest (Toro Rosso)
    14. Morley (Williams)
    15. Kirkham (HRT)
    16. Peacock (Marussia)
    Ret. Needham (Toro Rosso)

Widger flies passed Mathershaw, to take the lead of the Grand Prix, as the McLaren mechanics cheer. He certainly deserves a win after his season. Varga makes his way passed a few laps later, as the Ferraris pace begins to slow.
Jamie Franklin manages to speed up, getting passed Kingshark, and then d’Hazorme soon after. He’s now getting towards the back of Downton, just after Graham pushes his way through, for some inter-team battling.
This is shaping up great for the title battle!
