In an extremely odd session, Butch Coolidge, also known as the master of the wet weather, finished on top just over a tenth from new McLaren driver Matthijs Hofman, though his previous team – HRT, did not do too badly themselves, finishing in an incredible 5th and 10th!
Oli Peacock was another driver who stood out, finishing in front of both Lotuses, and Championship contender Hollis Graham in 13th place.
Red Bull, like the Lotus team languished down in the bottom half of the field, not being able to find enough grip in the treacherous conditions. We spoke to Team Principal of Lotus, Eric Boullier after practice.
“It seems that our car doesn’t seem to suit the wet conditions too well. It has been the same since the first race in Melbourne, but with the next practice session set to be dry, then we should be okay. The main problem will be if qualifying and the race day are the same conditions as now,”
