    Qualifying Results

The rain came down harder for the third and final session. Despite being new to the team, Hofman had no trouble settling in, taking pole position in the shootout by just under a tenth from Lotuses’ Bradley Downton. Varga showed that his practice pace was no lie, taking 5th place, in front of another impressive performance from the Mercedes of Shane Butler. The Lotus of Jamie Franklin didn’t look quite as confident in the wet conditions as his team mate, but still managed to start in front of rain-meister Butch Coolidge.

    2. Downton (Lotus)
    3. Kingshark (Red Bull)
    4. Varga (Sauber)
    5. Franklin (Lotus)
    6. Butler (Mercedes)
    7. Haddleton (Force India)
    8. Mathershaw (Ferrari)
    9. Bomeny (Ferrari)
    10. Coolidge (Williams)
    11. Chan (Sauber)
    12. Morley (Williams)
    13. Needham (Toro Rosso)
    14. Robson (Mercedes)
    15. Sunderland (Caterham)
    16. Armos (Force India)
    17. d’Hazorme (Caterham)
    18. Kirkham (HRT)
    19. Frog (Marussia)
    20. Widger (HRT)
    Ret. Ingram (McLaren)
    Ret. Graham (Red Bull)
    Ret. Cucamest (Toro Rosso)
    Ret. Peacock (Marussia)

Lap 1 Franklin makes an excellent start off of the grid, moving up to 5th out of the second corner.
Lap 1 Cucamest and Graham try and go side by side down into turn 3…but Graham pulls over, clipping Cucamest, and they both spin out into the wall!
Lap 1 Peacock shreds his tyres on some of the debris left over, and spins out into them!
Lap 2 The safety car is out just as quickly as the race started, as the marshals clear the cars and debris.
Lap 7 The safety car is back in, but Ingram pulls off into the pits. He’s on the radio to the team to tell them that he’s lost 4th and 5th gears. That is going to blow the Championship wide open.
Lap 9 The field is still pretty bunched up, and Morley is using this to his advantage, as he throws one up the inside of turn 1, taking the Toro Rosso off-guard.
Lap 14 Tom Robson making up for a bad qualifying, by passing the Caterham of Sunderland.

    13. Sunderland (Caterham)
    14. Needham (Toro Rosso)
    15. Robson (Mercedes)
    16. Armos (Force India)
    17. d’Hazorme (Caterham)
    18. Kirkham (HRT)
    19. Frog (Marussia)
    20. Widger (HRT)

Lap 19 Varga and Franklin looking quite strong now, as Varga pulls a move on Kingshark down into the final chicane. The Red Bull doesn’t get a great exit, allowing Franklin to get immediately on his gearbox.
Lap 20 Franklin pulls over and launches down the inside of Kingshark. Two places lost in just over 10 seconds…Kingshark won’t like that.
Lap 25 Unlike the Mercedes of Butler, Robson has started to slow down, as Sunderland re-takes his place, going around the outside of turn 3.
Lap 27 Sunderland is on a charge right now, passing Needham into the hairpin. That Caterham is looking quite impressive.
Lap 33 Downton and Hofman are really going at it, this is an exciting battle!
