    British Grand Prix Preview
Round 9 takes us to the home Grand Prix of half the field, and questionably the home of Formula One, Britain. The second race back in Europe yields a strong chance of a wet one, and that provides us with a fantastic chance to get a ninth different winner from nine races after Peter Varga of Sauber made it eight in Holland. We have also had 11 different drivers visit the podium so far this year, with Andae d’Hazorme being the latest for Caterham after a giant-killing performance in Holland. Can someone else surprise in Britain?

    Good idea @Olliekart ;)

I’m surprised a few others haven’t gone down the same route to be honest.

We’ve already upgraded reliability at McLaren.

    FP1 Results
In a cold morning in Silverstone, the McLaren of William Ingram took the fastest time just over two tenths from the Lotus of Jamie Franklin, though the Ferrari of Matershaw was not far behind. Caterham continued to show that their upgrades have been very efficient, with Sunderland claiming 6th, and his team mate half a second behind in 11th. The Mercedes duo seemed to struggle the most in the session, only being able to manage 19th and 21st, despite almost winning the last race, and the Lotus of Downton way down in 16th.
After the session, Bradley Downton told the press that he was having struggles to warm the tyres up, which meant he couldn’t quite get the most from the car.

Liking this reliability upgrade – it’s worth at least half a second a lap…

  • Profile picture of JamieFranklinF1 JamieFranklinF1 said 5 months ago:

The upgrades aren’t on the cars until Germany ;)

That’ll be the fans then. Can’t beat racing at home.

    FP2 Results
The session was noticeably warmer, allowing the Lotus to come into its own, as Jamie Franklin topped the time sheets, though McLaren and Red Bull were not far behind. The issues that effected Downton in the morning seemed to disappear, allowing him to claim 4th place, just a few tenths behind his team mate.
The Caterhams continued to do well, as did Téa Kirkham who was able to rise to 17th place. Nic Morley looked far more comfortable in the seat of the Williams than his team mate, with Nic in 5th and Butch all the way down in 20th. However, with the track set for a downpour, Coolidge could well be the Williams driver to watch for qualifying.

    Out in Qualifying 1
    18. d’Hazorme (Caterham)
    19. Sunderland (Caterham)
    20. Chan (Sauber)
    21. Peacock (Marussia)
    22. Kirkham (HRT)
    23. Hofman (HRT)
    24. Frog (Marussia)

The usual suspects fell in the first round of qualifying, despite the wet weather. Caterham seemed to struggle a little more than usual, in comparison to the dry conditions, and dropped out in Q1, to which they were both bitterly disappointed.
Jackie Chan of Sauber was the other to fall, showing that even a race-winning team have begun to struggle to understand the conditions thrown up by the weather in Silverstone.
